A new danger has appeared, and its presence has stirred an old miasma back over the lands of Arkesia. Nowhere is safe as everything from demons, monsters, and even corrupt mortals have taken this opportunity to turn the tide in their favor. Despite the darkness and muck filling the world, heroes of light have risen and thus began the unending battle between good and evil. Developed by Smilegate RPG and published by Amazon Games, Lost Ark is an amazing MMORPG full of adventure, beautiful scenery, and immersive storytelling. It’s almost unbelievable that a game of this amount of detail and caliber is free to play. There are in-game purchases, however, these are not necessary to enjoy your adventures through the world of Arkesia.
Although the storyline comprises of the classic shining hero vs the forces of evil archetypes, there is a reason why this trope continues to be used. It’s easy to understand and enjoyable to have the opportunity to transform into a fierce warrior. The world of Arkesia is massive, action-packed, and filled with amazing environments. This is easily a game that you can jump in and out to play casually with friends, or a game to fully invest and plunge yourself in.
Whether you are an amateur or an expert to MMORPGs, Lost Ark is filled with instructions, details, and helpful hints to ready any gamer on their journey. As with any game, the further you continue your story, the more you will need to learn of how to best strategize your character and the challenges that come with encountering stronger foes. Once the basic understanding of the game and how to progress is explained, it’s a simple as moving forward to do whatever you want.
Most of your money will be earned by accepting quests, which can mean anything from delivering a message to taking down hordes of ruthless bandits. Accept a quest, fulfill it, earn your reward, then repeat all while leveling up your skills. If the routine of completing quest after quest becomes repetitive and boring, be sure to check out all the different options that you can do in the game such as trying to romance an NPC, or joining a guild and finding other online players. There really is too much to do and it leads to a gaming experience completely unique to you and your decisions.
The amount of detail programmed into the game is staggering as not only can players extensively customize their characters appearances and skills sets, but the fight sequences are a blast to experience and perform. Couple this with breathtaking lands to explore and travel through, it’s easy to spend hours playing. The most noticeable critique that can be addressed is the timing of the movie scenes as there are times where information passes too quickly. Other times, certain areas go by too slow such as climbing or walking into a new scene. While these are nitpicky observations, Lost Ark is still a fantastic RPG to experience, and players really have nothing to lose except a few moments of their time to discover something new and exciting.
PROS: Beautiful graphics, a plethora of ways to customize, and easy to follow storyline.
CONS: Information can be overwhelming, some class types are genderlocked, unable to change body shape, women in the game have a ridiculous saunter whenever they walk, and some timing of movie scenes or dialogue is off.
SCORE: 8.5/10

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
