In-Game Qualifiers for Players Begins Next Month, Challenge Details Outlined
VANCOUVER – Kabam is bringing you the 2020 Summoner Showdown tournament for the award-winning mobile game, MARVEL Contest of Champions. Players can soon compete for the title of 2020’s Summoner Showdown Champion starting next month.
Between August 17th and September 21st, participating players in the Americas, Europe & Russia, and Asia & Oceania regions will have three weeks to use their best four-star Champion to defeat powerful bosses through the in-game qualifier quests. Qualifiers refresh from week to week, so players get three opportunities to become a Summoner Showdown semi-finalist. Week 1 will have players battling against Silver Surfer, Week 2 they will have to face a fierce Captain Marvel, and Week 3 they will have to go head to head against Iron Man (Infinity War).
Eligible players must be Level 60 and Cavalier (completed Act 6, Chapter 1 in Story Mode) in order to be able to compete, with only the top player from the Americas, Europe & Russia and Asia & Oceania regions moving onto the semi-finals at the end of each week (3 players per week, 9 total by the end of the Qualifier Round). Players can visit the official Summoner Showdown website to track the top scores in each region, with scores vetted by Kabam and Marvel and being updated every 24 hours.
Players are encouraged to attempt the qualifiers repeatedly to get the top score.
Winners will be determined by a series of scoring parameters.
- Successfully beating the opponent
- Hits Received (i.e., if more than one player defeats the opponent, the player with less hits will advance)
- Fight Duration (i.e., if more than one player defeats the opponent, and they also have the same number of hits received, the player with the shorter fight duration will advance
- Damage per second (i.e., if more than one player defeats the opponent, they also have the same number of hits received, and their fight duration is the same, the player who had the higher Damage per Second value will advance)
- If no player defeats the opponent, the Summoner who put more damage to the opponent will advance.
Summoners who are not eligible to compete can still participate by playing the Showup difficulty in the quest where all players can bring their best team of 4-Star Champions to beat the boss for completion rewards.
“Last year’s Summoner Showdown tournament was a big first step in amplifying how to bring competitive gameplay that is inherent in MARVEL Contest of Champions in a big way, and with an average of over 550,000 viewers from Marvel’s livestream, we knew there was a high demand to get players in on the fun,” said Gabriel Frizzera, Creative/Art Director for Kabam’s Marvel Contest of Champions. “With the gates now open across The Battlerealm for players to compete from around the world, this year’s tournament will be crazier than the last….and we can’t wait to see how players stack up against each other.”
Once the qualifiers conclude, the nine best Semi-Finalists will compete against each other in October across three separate matches, followed by the Finals in November. Fans can tune into each match by following Marvel Contest of Champions’ YouTube channel and Marvel Entertainment’s social channels to watch each match. Full information on timing for watching matches, prizing details, and the rules can be found at the Summoner Showdown’s official site.
