Million Depth: The Time-Freezing Roguelite You Need to Play
Diving into a million-floor-deep underground world sounds crazy, but Million Depth, the latest from Cyber Space Biotope, makes it awesome. This isn’t just about going down—it’s a demanding, super-smart action-roguelite centered on Moma, who’s trying to find her friend in this bizarre, deep hole. The game feels tense and satisfying from the moment you start.

The real star here is Moma’s “biotope jammer,” the tool that lets you literally freeze time. When Moma or her equipped weapon stops moving, the world pauses instantly—enemies, projectiles, everything. It’s like turning a messy, fast-paced fight into a high-stakes, calculated puzzle. This pause is essential because the weapon crafting system is deep, letting you combine blocks to build anything from laser guns to heavy shields. The catch? Everything has limited durability and will break. You have to constantly use that time-freeze mechanic to plan your next move, craft a repair, or risk getting stomped. This cycle of fighting, planning, and rebuilding is the core loop, and it’s addictively tense. Plus, movement itself is a tactical choice since you get a sneak peek at the loot and enemies waiting in the next depth level!
But it’s not all fighting. You’ll need to seriously manage your resources and equipment. The bartering system is wild; you deal with moody shopkeepers and try to game the market using a strange resource called “Stockinum.” It adds a fun, stressful layer of economic risk management you usually don’t see in this genre. Visually, the 2D pixel art is moody and cool, perfectly capturing the feeling of an endless, mysterious descent. Best of all, certain floors are dedicated to revealing the world’s fragmented backstories, slowly piecing together the true, often strange, history of the Million Depth.
Million Depth gives the roguelite genre a serious shake-up. If you love methodical, punishing gameplay and a central mechanic that forces you to think, this deep dive is absolutely worth the pressure. It’s a rewarding, unique experience that will definitely lock you in for ‘just one more run.’
I would rate Million Depth 8 stars out of 10.
