Rhythm and rhyme
Watch the vibrant, bright colors flash as they zoom by. Feel your fingers channel the rhythm of the song as the music reaches its pinnacle. Enjoy the visually stimulating backgrounds and enemies as you use the rhythm to destroy your foes. Published by X.D. Network Inc., and developed by PeroPeroGames, Muse Dash and its Just as Planned DLC combine rhythm-based games and cute aesthetics to provide a side scrolling gaming experience that makes it hard to stop playing.
Bringing heat to the beats
Playing through Muse Dash highlights several things. The first being all of the art and general aesthetic to the game. The colors and shapes are distinct and vibrant, they do an extremely effective job of entrancing the player during music stages. The plethora of character, stages, and enemy designs rack up and provide plenty of new combinations each time the player goes into a new song. All three major playable characters have multiple outfits to choose and unlock, providing different benefits in game. Each new song selection brings out a new stage, but it can be difficult to appreciate the designs of all these things with a horde of cute little baddies hurtling your way.
Music selection as far as the eye can see
The other thing that stood out about Muse Dash really was the music selection in the game. Multiple language tracks were included in the game, and all of the songs stretch over a wide birth of genres. From classic Jpop to hard Japanese rock selections to ballads to heavier EDM and electronic jams. It was almost overwhelming how much was packed into this game and how much choice the player has right at the beginning of the game. Finding a flow in the rhythm beats was easy and the multitude of choices allows the player to cater their playing experience to the type of music or genre that they wanted to listen to. Once again, it’s almost difficult to enjoy all the catchy songs as stage bosses hurl giant pink and blue bombs at your face.
Harmony and melody
Muse Dash does a wonderful job of mashing together the satisfaction of getting perfects on beats and brilliant color palettes with interesting character designs. The different outfits for the three main characters add some spice to the game and help set goals to unlock for the player to achieve, even if I did get a little shy looking at some of those character portraits. The most impressive part of the game remains the song selection, with endless choices jumping from genre to genre that keeps the player engaged.
Final score: 8.4/10
