Whether it be on the down the street or on your screen, you just can’t seem to escape neighbors from hell. In Neighbors back from Hell on PS4, by developer FarbWorks and publisher HandyGames, play as Woody and take some aggression out toward your hellish neighbor Mr. Rottweiler in this two dimensional puzzle strategy game.
Neighbors back from Hell is a remastered version of the 2003 game Neighbors from hell but it also contains the content from its sequel Neighbors From Hell 2: On Vacation. It has taken the levels from both games and arranged them into four “seasons” which can be played through in under 10 hours. The seasons are split up into “episodes,” which there are 25 of in total.
The first half of the game is pretty straightforward and easy to pick up on what to do. After learning the mechanics, the future of where the game goes becomes pretty clear. Traverse into Mr. Rottweiler’s house to initiate the pranking war. Make sure to learn his daily routines as they are going to grow more complicated as the game progresses. As you progress through the seasons, not only does Mr. Rottweiler begin to venture more around his house, but Woody gains access to more rooms as well. Go through the drawers and bins in his house and find the right materials to set up a prank at his expense, but make sure not to get caught!
There are a set amount of pranks you can pull on Mr. Rottweiler in each level, but you only need a percentage of those to progress in a given level. The game will also give you full capability of doing all the pranks if you so choose. However, if Mr. Rottweiler catches you three times in one attempt at a level, you’re going to have to start over completely, so make sure you decide your path carefully.
The next half of the game plays the same but it starts to vary a bit more. Plot wise, this is where Woody starts to cross the line a little bit. These are the levels from Neighbors From Hell 2: On Vacation, where Woody decides it is a good idea to follow Mr. Rottweiler as he travels around the world with his mom to prank him in places like China and Mexico. Interestingly enough, the playstyle doesn’t really get any more stale in the second half, you are going to have to get a little more creative though…
As far as a remaster goes, Neighbors back from Hell does a great job at taking its game and making it look nice, and play well on new systems like PS4 and Switch. Its claymation style still holds up with a nice touch up on resolution, it almost feels nostalgic to see that style of animation again. Ultimately it doesn’t go anywhere above and beyond as it is only a remaster of a 17 year old game, but it still has that charm and humor that will give the player a good burst of fun for the short adventure.
6/10

PlayStation 4 Review
I'm a second-year student at Michigan State University and, I grew up mostly on Nintendo games, specifically GameCube and Wii. My favorite games growing up were Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Wario World and Super Smash Bros Melee. Nintendo was a huge part of my upbringing, but that did not prevent me from trying other consoles. I built my own PC for gaming when I was around 13 and that is where most of my gaming resides nowadays, I do however have a plethora of consoles because some games are meant to be played on a TV. My favorite Video games right now are the first Portal and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but that tends to be malleable.
