Vancouver-based Studio Co-founded by Industry Veterans from Kabam, EA and Microsoft to Leverage Nexon’s Global Network for Debut Title
EMERYVILLE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–NEXON Co., Ltd. (“Nexon”) (3659.TO), a worldwide leader in free-to-play online and mobile games, and This Game Studio, an independent AAA mobile game developer, have announced a partnership to launch the studio’s debut mobile game across Nexon’s global publishing network.
“To make a great and fun game is truly an art form and a principle that the industry veterans at This Game Studio built their company on,” said Lawrence Koh, general manager, Nexon M. “Our goal at Nexon is to work with the top creative minds in game development and make sure they’re innovative, fun and exciting experiences are played by millions of people around the world.”
This Game Studio is an independent mobile game development company founded by mobile and games industry veterans from Kabam, Electronic Arts and Microsoft Game Studios. The company’s production and creative director, Scott Blackwood previously founded Exploding Barrel Games which created the highly successful mobile title Fast & Furious 6: The Game and led to the acquisition of the studio by Kabam. While at Kabam, the team laid the foundation for gameplay in Marvel Contest of Champions before leaving and joining forces with founding partners Heather Price, Chris Ko, and Ian Szufnara to create This Game Studio.
“It’s not every day a developer and publisher see eye to eye on building a great game as their number one priority but Nexon is the exception to this rule,” said This Game Studios’ Scott Blackwood. “Our team at This Game Studio is filled with some of the top creative minds in the mobile games industry who are laser focused on building a fresh and deep AAA mobile game that looks absolutely beautiful. We can’t wait to show the world our debut title later this year.”
The partnership with This Game Studio is the latest renowned developer to team up with Nexon to publish their AAA game across the world. Nexon recently announced the acquisition of Big Huge Games, the western developer behind the hit mobile strategy game DomiNations which was founded by Brian Reynolds and Tim Train, famous for online strategy games Civilization II and Rise of Nations. The publisher has also partnered with Respawn and Particle City to create several new and original smartphone and tablet games based on the expansive sci-fi universe of Titanfall.
