Over £130,000 has been confirmed as the total amount raised for GameBlast25, the biggest charity gaming weekend in the UK.
Across the weekend of February 21–23, gamers from all across the UK and beyond participated in gaming marathons and events with a gaming theme in order to collect money for the charity that helps individuals with physical disabilities enjoy and be included in video games.
Along with numerous well-known figures from the gaming industry, such as Rare, Kinetic Games, Dovetail Games, Digital Extremes, and Team Terrible, hundreds of players, creators, and communities registered for the event.
Paige Harvey, the GameBlast Event Coordinator stated, “We’re amazed and humbled by the final figure. To have the support of so many gamers around the world is a huge boost for the charity, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of everyone involved. We couldn’t be more thankful for their support, time, and generosity. Both the funds and awareness for SpecialEffect will help us have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of disabled people around the world by assisting them in discovering the magic of video games.”
The charity’s lifetime gaming accessibility support service, which helps gamers like Maxine play to the best of their abilities, will be supported in part by the event’s proceeds. None of the services provided by the charity are fee-based.
Almost the past twelve years, GameBlast has raised almost £1.8 million to benefit gamers with disabilities. The dates for GameBlast26 have been set for February 17–March 1.
