This was my first time attending the PC Gaming Show, and despite it being virtual this year, the event still managed to be incredibly exciting and entertaining. New and upcoming games were introduced at a breakneck speed, while still interspersing humorous host antics and informative interviews with game developers.
Below are just a few of the featured games that made a big impression on me:
Humankind: I actually just reviewed this one! [Steam Review] I enjoyed playing the beta version and I am super excited for it to come out.
Blankos Block Party: This world exclusive sneak peek showed a colorful, mischievous game of toys coming to life. Described as a place for content creators and collectors alike, you can play in a pre-built environment or design your own maps and games, then invite your friends over for party. The designs of weapons and skins were very cool—I especially like the unicorn rocket launcher and cactus grenade gun. You can learn more and register at https://blankos.com/
Total War Saga: Troy: I recently reviewed this game too! [Steam Review] They showed clips of Lord of the Rings-esque battles on the walls of the city of Troy, which were not available in the beta preview I played. I think this game also has the potential to be a smash hit. There was also a spot of a four-part video series that shows the making of a new custom PC inspired by the game.
Mafia: The popular original game from 2002 is getting a complete remastering with 4K. The cinematic visuals look stunning, and a lot of fans are clearly excited to play it again.
Roguelords: Cyanide Games is teaming up with Laika studio for this dark tactical game. Set in the 17th century, you play as the devil himself and recruit evil villains such as Dracula and Bloody Mary to fight on your side. Every character has different combat skills, and the creepy graphic design is to die for.
Unexplored 2: The Wayfarers Legacy: With whimsical animation and a fairy tale setting, this RPG puts you on a quest to destroy the staff of Yendor in the exciting sequel to the first installment.
Among Trees: I love calming nature games, and the graphic design of this gem of a game is simply exquisite. Just watching a couple minutes of the trailer made me feel like I was in the middle of a wide open forest. Of course, it’s not just about enjoying the view—you can also build a cabin, grow your own food, and explore your surroundings.
Potionomics: This game focuses on the business side of being a witch, which I found amusing. You own a potion shop, brewing and customizing different concoctions. You also build your skills as a salesman to convince customers and earn extra profit.
Red Sails: In this adventure game, you go sailing—in the desert! On your way, you can rescue stranded strangers and drop them off, all while looking for lost members of your own clan. The sandy landscape is an unexpected but original twist.
Mortal Shell: This deep-action RPG probably excited me the most—it has you explore desolate ruins for remains of defeated warriors so you can possess them. An exclusive clip of a one-on-one battle showcased the visceral nature of combat and the gorgeously gloomy background designs. The beta will be released on July 3, and you can join the Discord for early access.
Surgeon Simulator 2: Everyone loved the original Surgeon Simulator, and now its sequel has arrived! There are some fun updates and whacky new elements, such as the ability to throw hacked limbs at your fellow operating surgeons. Personally, I’ve always found the visuals a little gross, but there’s no denying this game is hilariously chaotic.
All in all, the lineup for this year’s PC Gaming Show did not disappoint. There are so many new titles to get excited about, and I am definitely going to keeping an eye on all these upcoming releases!

From the moment I first played Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy on the original Xbox, I have always had an avid curiosity and enthusiasm for video games. I admire their ability to immerse us in completely different worlds, and I am always eager to see how they integrate the newest breakthroughs in digital technology to make virtual reality feel real. I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley, but when I'm not studying I always make time to play Xbox One with my younger brother.
