Pixel Game Maker MV is a game maker software developed by Kadokawa Corporation and published by Playism.

Pixel Game Maker MV, available on Steam, allows you to create some amazing pixel art games without using much of prior programming knowledge. For initial starters, the game appears to be very complex. There are a lot of components in the software and multiple windows for Assets, Scene, Hierarchy, Projects, etc.

Pixel Game Maker MV is a light software in comparison to Unity and Unreal engines, reason being that it works mostly with 2D art and design. The tutorial projects are provided with the software and are very good for the overall understanding of the game.

Each scene can be designed with a separate setup; once all the level scenes are created, they can be linked with each other using transition where we can find which scene will play after which one. Another thing that could be done is Animation in the sprites, which allows you to do some great and smooth animation to be played in the game. Each object used in the project can have Actions that can be assigned to each part. Actions include pretty much controls and movements and are like a visual scripting of the game controls including players and AIs can be controlled.

Certain other noticeable editing include physics calculation and tile setup for the scene itself. Each object that is imported or used can have separate actions for each control and state. On top of the import of normal objects and arts, there are plugins that could be added as well. However, I am not too sure of what kind of plugins would be added. Resources can be added mostly as a sprite sheet and with alpha to take out part as a tile and then added it to the scenes – it seems to be an easy setup for the scene. In addition, audio, video, and animation can be imported and played.

Overall Pixel Game Maker MV is a complicated software at first, but tutorials clarify the basics of the game, with the basics of all 2D game development. I would give Pixel Game Maker MV 7.5 stars.
