Developed and published by Ubisoft, Riders Republic brings back the era of action sports games. If you are fans of those Tony Hawk or SSX games, you will surely love Riders Republic for sure. It brings all those amazing sports in a single package.
Riders Republic has an amazing setup in a single, but very diverse environment that is inspired from and portrays realistic places like, Yosemite, Zion, Grand Teton, and many more such locations. The game looks amazing and is mostly optimized for a multiplayer style gameplay. There are a bunch of things to talk about so let’s start off with gameplay itself.
Riders Republic starts off with a quick tutorial of the basic sports like Biking, Snowboard/Skiing, and Jetpacks racing. It then introduces players to Riders Ridge, the central hub for shop, tricks lesson, and free-for-all events. Once the introductions are done, you get to start playing the different events available throughout the maps. Players can roam in the open world with whatever sports gear they would want to equip, and then there are some fun additional exploration related items available like skis with jet, or a bike with a booster behind it. Those exploration items have their own events called Shack Daddy events. There is a backtrack functionality available as well during the events, and each event has some side mission that earns the players with stars that showcases their overall level.
Each sport has its own event line and levels, and a player can completely dedicate themselves to those specific events. Like a player can only progress in Tricks biking sports and skip all other sports like Race biking. There are sponsors that players can choose and up to 3 at a time and completing those specific missions during sports events lets you earn high tier gears, same as leveling up provides players with high tier gears. There are bunch of different sports available, which I am going to list below:
- Biking – Tricks: Events consist of scoring points.
- Biking – Racing: Events consist of time trials or racing against AI or other players.
- Snow – Tricks: Similar to Biking – Tricks of scoring points.
- Snow – Racing: Ski racing events.
- Jetpack Racing
- Gliding: Gliding close to the ground or near missing some objects can help you chain score points.
- Shack Daddy Events: Allows players to use Exploration gears to race or score points.
In addition to events, there are landmarks players can unlock, which are inspired from real locations, and there are stunt challenges which are unique based on environments.
Players will have to try their hands on with Riders Republic to believe all the amazing available events, including some invitation only events. These are like Boss events that players can only attend after achieving specific levels in each sport. There is easily about 25-30 plus hours worth of content players can try out.
There are also Mass Race Events, though technically they are a glitchy/buggy mess as you never know you just glitched out mostly because of just the sheer amount of real players in the event. Also, the Riders Republic is fun but there are some bugs and glitches that do not make sense, like while racing you just get flown out of the track without even hitting anything.
Overall, Riders Republic is an amazing place that brings back the great era of action sports games, but the technical bugs and glitches kinda hold the experience back sometimes, which is very minor. I would be looking forward to what Ubisoft has in mind for the Year 1 updates.
I would definitely rate Riders Republic a solid 8/10 stars.
