Scene Investigators Review for Steam

Scene Investigators, by developer and publisher EQ Studios, is an in depth crime scene investigation game where you use deductive reasoning to uncover information about recreated crime scenes. You play as a trainee with the goal of becoming a full time investigator. In order to prove your ability, you are presented with many reconstructed crime scenes with the goal of solving them to the best of your ability. The only tools at your disposal are your own mind and the details provided for you to find. Will you be able to solve them all and pass the exam?

When you start, you are told, by your personal assistant, about your job and what you will be doing to prepare for the final exam. You are also given tips on how to make your way through this exam. First, observe your surroundings and pay close attention to the scene. Analyze everything on the site and keep track of even insignificant details. Second, not all interactable objects are important as are some non-interactable actually important. Third, when there isn’t enough evidence provided, you will have to trust your intuition. Fill in the missing gaps and make smart, calculated assumptions. Fourth, when all else fails, don’t give up, take a break and come back and comb through the crime scene with new fresh eyes. You are then told that some aspects of the original scenes have been omitted on purpose in order to test your ability to solve the case. After which you are put into the preliminary tutorial to get a feel for the gameplay. In each stage you will have a set of questions to answer and for that reason I also recommend having paper close by to keep notes on so you can sort out the details you actually need. Otherwise it can get jumbled and confusing really quick. This game is a very fun experience if not a little time consuming, definitely made for a specific audience to enjoy. Overall, Scene Investigators is a very well made and in depth game that is perfect for those who like true crime, escape rooms, and interesting puzzles.

There is not really much I can say about issues in this game. I didn’t encounter many bugs while playing but did notice that some others did have issues with some of the interactable items getting stuck on their screen, as well as a few other interface issues. The only issue, of the like, I experienced was with the case file menu where you answer questions; it got stuck a few times but nothing too severe. It would be nice if there was a way to mark or write down not in the game so you could keep track of them easier especially with how arbitrary some of the questions are.

Scene Investigators is a deductive reasoning game for fans of true crime and escape rooms. You will walk around recreated crime scenes to find clues and answer questions about the crime that was committed. It is important to keep track of your evidence and details about the crime, so maybe keep a pencil and paper around for notes. The game features in depth recreations and interesting stories that you discover, as you piece together the evidence. Overall, this is a very interesting experience that requires a good amount of brain power and deductive reasoning. I am giving this game a 9 out of 10 because it is a very well made investigation game with very little drawbacks.

Scene Investigators is available for PC via Steam.
