Shapez.io is a building puzzle game developed by Tobias Springer as an open-sourced game where players combine and build structures to deliver different shapes to the center hub. As the shapes required to clear a level change, the structures that a player has built will also need to change, with the structures needed to create the shapes needed getting progressively more and more complex. Shapez.io is a great game for those who enjoy puzzle and building games and is a good relaxing, low stress game that makes for a good time waster or just something to do when you’re bored.
The controls of Shapez.io are incredibly simple. You could play the entire game with just your mouse and one key if you wanted to. Shapez.io also comes with several different hot key combinations for common adjustments. Adding and deleting structures such as paint mixers, moving belts, and splitters can be done easily and quickly. The real challenge of Shapez.io is not completing the incredibly simple of objective of delivering hundreds of shapes, but managing the delivery of said shapes. As more and more structures need to be combined and different shapes need to be moved from the map’s outer edges to the middle hub, the board can get quite complex. A quick Google search will reveal the enormity of creativity that Shapez.io’s players have in delivering their multicolored, polygonal shapes.
Shapez.io has a few other mechanics involved, such as a simple upgrade tree. Upgrades are used to help speed up the delivery and efficiency of the different structures. As you continue to play Shapez.io, the rapidly increasing demand for shapes means sometimes it can take a fair amount of time to complete each level. However, this means Shapez.io is the sort of game you can play when you’ve just had enough of the hectic online multiplayer of more intense games or just have a bit time off to spend on a simple building game.
Shapez.io is a good game for what it is. Even on its Steam store page, the game is described as “relaxed.” Shapez.io is very much a game that is great for those who just want a game with a smooth and relaxing soundtrack, tasks with no pressure involved, and the gratification from building increasingly complex structures that still somehow all work. Not yet convinced by this review? Shapez.io also has a demo version online that you can try out before paying the low entry fee to unlock all of its levels.

Steam Review
My name is Matt Tran and I have been playing video games since I could remember holding a controller. I've always been a hardcore gamer growing up, from the hectic MW2 and Halo 3 lobbies, my many journeys through several Halo clans and my current exploits with my Destiny 2 clan. I love shooters and RPGs and overanalyzing every component of every game I've played, from weapon stats to ideal perks. When I have time to play other games, I currently play Genshin Impact and Star Wars Squadrons.
