SEGA has confirmed that the recent online trademarking of Shenmue 3 is indeed a hoax and is now taking steps to investigate the matter.
A Sega spokesperson wrote in a statement to CVG,
“Sega has confirmed that the recent application for the trademark of Shenmue III is a fake and is looking into the origins of this application.”
