Snowbreak Containment Zone Review for Steam

Snowbreak Containment Zone is a third person shooter gacha game developed and published by Amazing Seasun Games that took notice on how gacha games have not taken on a tactical third person shooter title before for mobile or PC.  With the game being on mobile and PC, some stuff had to be simplified for both systems as to prevent a large margin of differences between the two systems.  Aside from that the, gameplay, itself, feels very toned-down Tom Clancy’s The Division like and mixed in with some different elements familiar with most action oriented gacha games published nowadays.  As for how this game compares to the rest of its rivals in the gacha community is that it has some controversy behind it, yet the story itself feels new and original while going through the loops in establishing how the player is to interact with the world.  Amazing Seasun Games seems to know what they are doing in terms of what they want in a game considering the community itself seems well and the company is developing some new Intellectual properties.

The game is on PC and mobile so there are some issues that can arise due to differences in overall power between the two.  In regards to the graphics, the setting for both systems they are customizable with some defaulting to certain parameters for the sake of performance.  As for the PC version it might be preferred as the controls on a touch screen feels limited due to the screen space alongside the space taken by fingers in order to play so it.

This is especially true since the game is very hands on and makes the player be more active in the gameplay as opposed to some other gacha games that have an automatic feature.  Furthermore, this is more clearly evident when players see how cluttered the screen can become as opposed to the PC version.  The cluttered screen is something that can be adjusted over time by getting used to it over time.

However, this can be remedied by adding attachments to the phone that allow for a more traditional controller set up at the detriment of the player spending more money to play better.  As for the PC version, it uses the traditional shooter controls normally used on PC.

Gameplay wise the third person shooter aspect is the highlight of Snowbreak Containment Zone and makes it stand out.  With the game being possibly one of the few third person shooter gacha games makes the game fairly unique.  Moreover, the game emphasizes building various teams towards the midway portion of the game as the content starts to become more difficult.  This makes the overall experience feel more rewarding when players beat certain stages that have proven to be far too difficult without proper planning.  In regards to how in-depth the game is, various weapons can be modified to perform better or be focused on certain buffs for a status focus team, or pure dps (damage per second).  Despite this focus on the combat the length of some of these missions feel short and only cover a small portion of the total gameplay.  This short duration of missions makes the gameplay feel more like it was second hand after thought.  However, the bosses in the game especially in the later stages offer some much-needed challenge to offset the easy to complete missions.  There is another portion of the gameplay that resolves this issue but it is unlocked later which is special missions.  These missions can be formed in a rougelite, boss fights, etc. with special mention towards the rougelite being multiplayer which brings in a more team-oriented gameplay similar to Tom Clancy’s The Division.  This is especially evident in the tactical aspect where players can hide behind cover to avoid taking damage.  In addition to that tactical aspect, the player can create a team similar to other popular gacha games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, etc. with some fighting game mechanics by having other characters perform assist attacks.  Aside from the gameplay the story of the game is interesting, and follows some of the usual story beats to allow the player to become inserted into the story.

The story of this game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, and players are asked to take on the role of adjutant in a sort of para military operation while having some flashbacks related to the cause of what caused the end of the world. This makes an interesting story, from a writer’s perspective as most of the information is in the past and with so many characters tied to the past offers players an incentive to keep playing the game for the story.  Moreover, the overarching story is also supplemented with interactions with other characters the player has obtained through the gacha system and allows for some more serious character building.  By making each character have their own story allows players to be even more invested as they learn more about the backstories, and personalities.  This level of character interaction is found in other games like Nikke Goddess Of Victory, Persona series, and the Fallout Series.

The game, itself, feels cohesive and especially for a game that seems to be geared towards mobile.  This makes the pc version feel a lot better in comparison as the developers no longer feel pressured to fit all the controls into a simple screen.  As for the gameplay the feel of the game is reminiscent of Tom Clancy’s The Division in terms of mechanics with elements of switching in characters with assist attacks akin to fighting games.  Alongside, the gameplay there needs to be a reason as to why and especially for gacha games and the main driving factor is the story, which the game has in spades.  Snowbreak Containment Zone by Amazing Seasun Games is a solid 8/10 game, with the only issue being that some of the missions feel too short and could last longer as to keep players more invested.
