Song in the Smoke is a VR survival game developed and published by 17-BIT. Song in the Smoke is set in primal times and provides a very unique experience because of Virtual Reality immersion of the game.
Song in the Smoke has a great startup that introduces us to the world and environment. It starts off with a tutorial of many, many things that we can do in the game, including actually picking up the consumable items like fruits. You can pick up other items and use your storage cloth to keep the items sorted with the limited space. There is a huge crafting feature in Song in the Smoke where players will have to pick up different items to create a whole tool like Torch, or weapons like bows. This makes the game more realistic to the primal times.
There are also certain objectives that players will have to complete before they can move to the next level. In addition, the game does not distract you as it uses minimal UI. To save the game, players will have to take rests by creating a campfire. There are a couple of benefits of the campfire, one is that it provides you survival from cold and allows you to save and manage your inventory. There are certain indicators that provide you with letting players know when the character is hungry, tired, or cold.
Movement is very unique in which the player can rotate the character around a few degrees using a controller with each tap and allows you to jump a certain distance as well. There is also a wrist device that provides players with stats.
There is combat available at the end of the level after collecting the certain items, which can be difficult if you are able to balance out your inventory among things. There is also a day and night cycle in the game, and night cycles are dangerous as there are some interesting monsters lurking outside.
Song in the Smoke is a unique combination of survival plus a campaign driven game and asks you to give your 100%. At the same time, the game provides a very immersive experience in the virtual VR world. The gameplay time is not to be taken lightly as it will take well some good chunk of time playing through Song in the Smoke.
Overall, Song in the Smoke is an amazing addition to the VR catalogue, and provides players with a lot of different experiences, which I have rarely seen in any games overall. I would rate Song in the Smoke a solid 8.5 stars.
