Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator Review for Steam

Honestly, if that name is not enough to get your attention, there is nothing else that I could write here to further convince you to check this game out. I am going to go right into it; Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator is a game absolutely worth looking into for its uniqueness. Do you like 90s-art-styled throwbacks? Do you like trading stocks? What if they were about trading stocks on baby aliens? What if this absolute lunacy was wrapped up in a futuristic sci-fi setting parodying corrupt corporations, consumer demand, and a ton of black comedy? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you need to check this game out. If your answer is no to one or more of these questions, I still want you to check this game out!

Developer Strange Scaffold (apt name!) has crafted a ridiculous setting, filled with various strange alien babies, pancake-headed newscasters, and scummy stock traders who want that new boat badly and are ready to bet the entire house on the baby! The gameplay is really that of a stock market simulator, except that you are betting on the highs and lows of an alien baby’s supposed lives and future events. You see, in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only the entertainment and drive of betting the lives of babies when nothing else is really left. You will be able to buy and sell stocks as you see the stock charts ebb and flow with the events of the baby’s life, which may include various good events, such as learning a new language or starting a farm, or bad events, such as being caught in a storm, ingesting poisonous liquids, losing a limb, or protesting against dystopian sci-fi megacorps.

You will quickly learn about shorting stocks (honestly, the game is a good overview of how stocks actually work, but DO NOT take that as financial advice from me!), and you can also hire specialists who can learn info about the lifespan of the baby’s age or what their average stock price will command, all at a percentage cut of your profits. Overall, it is easy to pick up and plan, essentially just being a few buttons as your control, but it is wrapped up in the package of a pseudo stock exchange most impressively.

The game’s ridiculousness and humor are ripe with black comedy, absurd character designs, and relentless and absurd situations. I streamed it for a few friends on Discord while playing, and I heard them laughing at the insanity the entire time! Without a doubt it will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you are into that style of humor, it is an easy recommendation.

Overall, the best thing I can say about Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator is that it is the most insane game I have seen in a while, which means you should absolutely check it out. I love when an absolutely absurd game like this sees release. It is a throwback to unique and memorably named games from yesteryear (Earthworm Jim, God Hand, The Day of the Tentacle). A stock trading simulator may not sound like a lot of fun at first, but it is the knockout combo delivery of the game’s setting, atmosphere, and characters that make this into a great adventure. With more content on the way as well, there is no better way for you to get your alien baby stock trading fix!

Score: 9/10

Your local neighborhood nutjob, gamer, and teacher! I'm an avid fan of many genres such as platformers, shooters, horror, etc. I am also an avid tabletop gamer - hugely into the worlds of Warhammer and all of their spinoffs. I'm a big believer in being objective - even if something is not my cup of tea, I want to talk about it on the objective level - is it well made, crafted with love, and with care for the fans? If so, that's a good game in my book for someone and well worth their hard earned dollarydoos!
