The masterminds of co-op are back! Split Fiction, by Hazelight Studios and published by EA, which is currently available for $49.99 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the EA app, invites players to go on an exciting trip with their friends. More than 26 media outlets, including Variety, TechRadar Gaming, and GameSpot, gave the game perfect scores and universal praise on Metacritic, describing it as “a hilarious, compassionate, and delightful new benchmark for multiplayer experiences.” As of right now, Split Fiction is the 2025 game with the best reviews.
In Split Fiction, players assume the roles of Mio and Zoe, who collaborate and discover the strength of an unexpected friendship while navigating through colorful sci-fi and fantasy worlds. With more gameplay variation than ever before, Split Fiction takes the tried-and-true co-op model to the next level. Hazelight Studios, the creative force behind the 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two (23 million units sold globally), is behind this game.
Josef Fares says, “Split Fiction is filled with the wildest stuff you’ll ever see in a co-op game. The gameplay variety is insane and I’m incredibly proud of the level of polish that we managed to do. You’re going to visit some really incredible sci-fi and fantasy worlds, collaborate, and have a lot of fun – you guys are gonna love it.”
Aspiring writers Mio and Zoe are imprisoned in a device that is intended to steal their original ideas. To escape the simulation of their own story, the two must put aside their disagreements. Every stage of their trip will introduce them to new powers and mechanisms. Get away from a sun that is about to explode, compete against a monkey in a dancing match, perform some amazing hoverboard stunts, face a malicious cat, and ride anything from sandsharks to gravity bikes. Discover completely distinct worlds, surprising new skills, and a variety of gaming options, such as puzzles and platforming.
Players will come upon enigmatic portals that lead to Side Stories as they explore various locations. These are quick, optional gameplay detours that send Mio and Zoe into unfinished drafts and imaginative tale ideas from their writing, further changing up the action. Gamers won’t want to miss waterskiing behind a flying train, surfing over the desert on the backs of sand sharks, or scaling a giant-infested mountain.
Jeff Gamon, General Manager of EA Partners says, “Split Fiction is a bombastic, no-holds-barred celebration of what video games do best – entertain! Once again, Josef and the fantastic team at Hazelight have proven themselves champions of cooperative adventure gaming. I’m as confident as anyone could be that gamers, their friends, families and loved ones will lose themselves completely in this extraordinary co-op journey.”
Split Fiction can be played online using buddy’s Pass, a standard feature from Hazelight Studios that lets users who have a copy ask a buddy to play the entire game with them for free, or cooperatively with local multiplayer. Cross-play features are available for Friend’s Pass on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, much like in the original game.
Split Fiction is now available for $49.99 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through the Epic Games Store, Steam, and EA app. The game has a PEGI 16 and ESRB TEEN rating.
