We had a great deal of fun reviewing the hugely popular, community-driven space sim-RPG, Starpoint Gemini 2 by Iceberg Interactive and Little Green Men Games.
Here is how the developer describes the game:
Captain your own space ship and roam the galaxy in 3D in this tactical space simulator with tons of RPG depth! Space has never looked so inviting – but images can betray…
It has been two years since the end of the second Gemini war, and the situation in the wartorn system is further from resolution than ever before. The collection of freedom fighters named Gemini League is now reduced to a small group, with no power or influence, after losing their leaders. The Empire meanwhile, has used the re-opened Starpoint to occupy the once renegade Gemini sector – and beyond.
Controls:
The controls were pretty intuitive, keyboard-friendly and easy to maneuver. A tutorial can always remind you should you forget, but once you’ve been playing for a while, you won’t need to be reminded.
Gameplay:
In the beginning, the player gets to choose between the three Classes of Commander, Gunner or Engineer. In addition, you get to choose which ship you will be piloting. The nice aspect that we’ve found is the choice between autopilot and manual controls, depending on your mood and what you are trying to accomplish. You also have the option between Free Roam and Campaign so that’s a nice selection feature as well. Expect to spend between 10-15 minutes at the beginning of the game reading prompts and tutorials and then you’ll be able to get into the game itself and start exploring.
Storyline:
The game is massive. The storyline consists of many facets, including 0pposing factions (5 in total) and politics playing a huge part in your adventure across the galaxy. In addition, each faction is charged with controlling different items. You’ll be able to spend a lot of your time playing in the form of exploration, freelance missions, as well as general combat. You’ll also be able to spend some time investigating and scanning anomalies, assassinations and simple repair work.
Graphics:
The graphics specs are as follows – DirectX 10 compliant graphics card with 512MB RAM. We thought the overall game was visually pleasing.
Sound:
The beautiful soundtrack of Starpoint Gemini 2 is made by Vladi Sabev.
Overall, we had a great experience playing Starpoint Gemini 2 and gave it a 4.5 out of 5.
Starpoint Gemini 2, has left Early Access, and is available now on Steam with an SRP of $34.99, discounted by 20% during launch week
