Introduction/Information about Static Dread: The Lighthouse
Static Dread: The Lighthouse is a game that was recently released on August 6th, 2025 for PC via Steam. This is a psychological horror simulation game where players will play as a lighthouse keeper. They will need to safely guide ships into the harbor using their radio, greet different characters coming to the lighthouse, and decide whether or not to allow them access inside, all while keeping their sanity and energy in check. I’ve never been one for horror games. They have never been a favorite of mine. This game, however, did not seem too scary. As I played, it felt like all I was doing was simply just using the radio and talking to people. After playing Static Dread: The Lighthouse, I would say this is an alright game that does not go too crazy with its horror elements.

Gameplay
The gameplay for Static Dread: The Lighthouse involves players working with a radio and helping to guide ships to the harbor they need to get to. The game will start players out right in the lighthouse. The layout, itself, is a pretty small area. There’s the main entrance, the desk with the radio, and the lighthouse itself. Once players get acquainted with their new setting, they will get a call from the radio. It’s the boss telling players how to do their job. This is where players will be taught what to do for the main portion of the game. They will have to answer different channels using the radio and help guide ships to their designated port. All players have to do is create a path from the ship leading to the port marked on their map. It’s pretty simple. While talking with the ship, players can ask questions to get an idea of how the seas are outside. Of course, players will not always be glued to the desk. Occasionally, people will come knocking on the door. Some will just want to have a simple chat. However, others may want to enter the lighthouse. Players will have to decide, based on whatever reason they give, whether or not to let these people in or tell them to get lost. These choices with both the radio and the visitors are very important, as it can affect how the story plays out.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I believe the Static Dread: The Lighthouse is a game that does not go too crazy with horror and is mainly about guiding ships. I mentioned before that I do not primarily enjoy too many horror games. However, that did not seem to be too crazy, which was fine for me. However, the gameplay itself wasn’t primarily too interesting to me, as it did seem to be just charting different paths. One positive I can say for the game is that the narrative was very interesting, especially with the fact that things play out differently based on who I help and who I shun. If you are looking for a somewhat scary game with an interesting narrative, then I would still recommend this game.
