Super Animal Royale for Steam is developed by Pixile Studios and published by Modus Games, and is a battle royale game. The main goal is very clear from the start: be the last character to survive! Like other games of its same genre, you are pitted against many other characters piloted by real people and face each other in a rapidly dwindling world map. At the start of the game, your customizable character is dropped to a place of your choosing into the world map, filled with essential supplies and gear you will need to beat everyone else.
Gameplay and Experience:
Parachuting into the ground, I had to rapidly adjust to my surroundings as the game had already started by the time I touched ground; no time buffer to look for supplies or anything else. I had to learn the many different types of supplies, guns, and special abilities that each character could use to fight against incoming rivals and enemies. The first few times, I died almost instantly to a more experienced opponent, but nevertheless, I started to improve the more I got used to the game.
Super Animal Royale is relatively simple for a battle royale game. There are 4 item slots that one can have at any time, which I used for guns, tape, and other miscellaneous supplies that could be useful to fight other opponents. Unlike Fortnite, there is no building required for this game, and each game duration is much shorter, allowing me to get more games in. On average, I faced around 50 opponents per game (maximum 64 players), but this could vary based on the relative popularity of the game since the wait for match lobbies was minimized to prevent boredom from waiting in a lobby for too long.
Both defense and offense are extremely important in Super Animal Royale. I felt that gaining health pots and armor were necessary to beat well-armed foes in the late game when not many opponents were left, because there are not many ways to beat an opponent with over twice or triple your remaining health, even with better guns. Additionally, mechanics such as aiming as well as being able to time your special abilities, like a smokescreen or stink bomb, are necessary to do consistently well and outlast your opponents. Finally, having a sense of where you are in the map is extremely important, as the area of the map shrinks relatively fast.
Customization and Bonuses:
There are many bonuses and free items that one could use to customize their character and weapons. Both in game currency and microtransactions could be used to purchase items of relative rarity to add style and flare to your character during gameplay. However, microtransactions are not necessary at all in game to succeed and win the game, as these items are just cosmetic. The fast leveling as well as many in game opportunities to gain more items also encourages a better in-game experience as well.
Thoughts:
I would definitely recommend Super Animal Royale to any fans in the battle royale genre, as I felt that the gameplay and balance of the game was done relatively well. Additionally, with its more cartoon graphics and shorter gameplay, I would recommend this game to newer audiences who are not as experienced as people who have played other, more complicated battle royale games. I rate Super Animal Royale a 8/10.
Super Animal Royale is available for Windows PC and Mac via Steam.
Steam Review
I started gaming on the PS2 playing 2K and various fighting games, then played a lot of Nintendo Wii games. Currently, I like playing JRPGs as well as platformers and MOBAs. In a video game, I enjoy exploring the intricacies of fighting systems as well as viewing various character developments throughout the story of the game.
