Terrorbytes, a four-player comic horror game, was released today on Steam Early Access for $7.99 by developer Treetop and publisher Over the Moon (The Fall, The Last Hero of Nostalgia). Terrorbytes, a video game inspired by Tron and Stranger Things, centers on four disobedient young friends who are pulled into a haunted arcade cabinet and made to collect pellets for the horrifyingly disfigured retro arcade hero “Ms Croak-Man.”
One important aspect of Terrorbytes is cooperation: Players must carefully manage their energy if they wish to meet the game’s collection targets or buy upgrades and special items. All players gather pellets for energy, which goes into a shared pool. Even sprinting costs energy. Items include a basic lantern, a fun power washer, and map-room enhancements that let users broadcast their voice to other players or spawn useful arrows and decoys. To live in this arcade world, which is full of skin-walkers, invisible stalkers, pocket-dimension horrors, and other dangers, you’ll need all the assistance you can get.

There will be five stages, four playable characters, five tools, and six safe room upgrades in this Early Access version of Terrorbytes. In the upcoming months, more adversaries, maps, and other content will be released.
John Warner, Founder and Studio Lead at Over the Moon stated, “Terrorbytes is the culmination of everything I love about gaming. It’s got goofy humor, addictive emergent gameplay, throwbacks to the retro arcade scene that inspired me as a child, and it’s just a lot of fun to play with your friends. This Early Access version offers great value with endless replay value, but it’s just the beginning. We’ll be adding more content throughout based on our own ideas in concert with player feedback. It’s exciting to vicariously experience it for the first time through the eyes of new players, and we can’t wait to see what you have to say!”
Terrorbytes is available for PC via Steam Early Access.
