The Best Cops Games for Your Console

The Best Cops Games for Your Console

When it comes to video games, playing as the bad guy is always best!

Grand Theft Auto has built an entire franchise on hold-ups, car chases and escaping the long arm of the law. The one piece of DLC they had that would put you in the good guy’s shoes was seemingly dropped, meaning those who wanted to live a life of good in Lo Santos were badly let down.

There are plenty of good cop games on PC, not least Police Simulator, which puts you in the fictional US metropolis of Brighton. It’s incredibly satisfying for those who wish to be a force for good in their video gaming, but it is a rarity and not available on consoles.

On mobile, there are many police games, and not all of them have you driving cars or arresting criminals. Cops N Robbers (Jail Break) is a great survival game available on iOS, whilst Police Sim 2022 Cop Simulator has you exploring real-life cities such as Shanghai. If you’re tired of chasing and still want your cops and robbers’ experience, then the online slots from Coral play with the themes in titles such as Cops and Robbers and Cop the Lot. You can get above the rank of a beat cop if you wish, and Detective Games: CSI CrimeBot is a great way to pull rank and investigate some proper crimes.

Those are mobile titles, but what of cop games for your home console? Which should you be playing, and which should be locked up? You might need to dust off an old machine for some of these, but they’re the finest cop games we can come up with on your PlayStation or Xbox.

LA Noire – Remastered

LA Noire plays like an old film, building tension through strong character work, engaging plotlines and the overriding film Noire style in which it is presented. You play as Cole Phelps, a 40s Los Angeles detective tasked with solving crimes and conspiracy. There’s plenty of detective work, some car chases and a smart interrogation system. The remaster made the quizzing of suspects a little more challenging, but otherwise, it is a great improvement on the original, which was groundbreaking for its time.

Disco Elysium – The Final Cut

Disco Elysium isn’t the sort of game to have you crouching behind barrels shooting at bad guys, but it is a unique and enchanting RPG that must be played at least once. You Detective Harrier du Bois in the fictional city of Revachol, a debauchery-soaked world of gorgeous hand-drawn visuals. By making choices and exploiting your unique skill tree, you interrogate suspects talk to people (every one voice acted) and make choices based on what you find. It’s a cop simulator like you’ve never played before.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Sleeping Dogs is a woefully under-appreciated title that blends fighting action with a cracking storyline. You play as Wei Shen, a highly trained undercover cop looking to infiltrate Hong Kong’s gangland. You will rise through the ranks of the Triads, bringing down generals, getting involved in high-speed chases and using martial arts to get by. The Definitive Edition has been around for eight years and comes with 24 DLCs and improved graphics and sound.
