Greetings Gamers, This is Greg Vander Velde here to talk about The Eternal Cylinder from Ace Team and Good Shepperd. The devs have created a super unique game full of mysteries, puzzles, and mutations. If you like games that keep you thinking outside the box, this might just be the game for you to mutate into that box as you ponder the mysteries around you.
Note: This review is based on the beta version, which features only the first chapter of the game.
Play as a Trebhum as you run for your life from an almost never-stopping cylinder that’s rolling across the planet. Along the way, a delightful narrator orates your journey and guides players on their path of gathering family members, surviving, and unlocking the mysteries of the past. The world is full of extremely unique creatures, plants, and buildings that keep every step interesting. But you don’t necessarily have to run for your life you can roll, swim, jump, or just get flattened because you got stuck at a dead end. The alien-looking world is also littered with mannequin and machine hybrid looking creatures and relics, something so strange to see it must be from a fever dream of Sid’s from Toy Story.
GAMEPLAY
The Eternal Cylinder keeps the gameplay interesting with puzzles, mutations, and collecting items that change the way you play the game. Collecting items allows for survival with food, water, and healing; as well as, items that allow your Trebhums to mutate and overcome various obstacles and creatures. Crystal Dust, another collectible, can be used to revive Trebhums or upgrade the skill trees found in some temples, these allow for increased health stats, leadership which allows the family to grow larger, holding more water, and a few more nifty attributes.
Mutations can be stacked sometimes and only apply to the selected Trebhum this allows for a bunch of different loadouts that can quickly handle different situations by switching to different family members in the party that the player can control. The downside is sometimes you can ditch your family members if they can’t figure a way to where you go if they don’t have the mutation that allowed for the Trebhum to reach the area and there are even some creatures that can take your mutations away. Which makes their cloud storage system really helpful. It allows you to store, resurrect, and withdraw family members. Which can be a great way around the leadership requirements. It can be a real lifesaver. *Wink*
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a game that you can enjoy getting lost in without too much pressure it’s going to be a good fit. The Eternal Cylinder is pretty close to a game for all ages but maybe too scary for the littlest ones. This game offers such a different and creative playground it can appeal to dedicated gamers and a more casual audience. The game is simple but not so simple it’s boring, and all the while is guided by a delightful narrator. The Eternal Cylinder offers a casual and interesting gaming experience so if that sounds perfect for you please check it out.
