The organizers of GDC 2019 have announced that Playmind’s The InnerFriend — available on Windows PC and coming soon to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One — is one of the honored recipients of this year’s Best in Play award. Joining seven other winning independent games, The InnerFriend was selected by a panel of veteran GDC organizers. As a winning developer, Playmind will be at GDC in Booth #N3116 on the GDC Play floor, giving demos of The InnerFriend.
Inspired by the works of psychologist Carl Jung and the filmography of Stanley Kubrick, The InnerFriend is a third-person psychological horror adventure game that dives deep into the subconscious to unearth gruesome beings materialized from mental anguish. The narrative — which contains no dialogue or text — heavily plays on childhood fears, exploring complex emotional themes and the psychology surrounding coping mechanisms to overcome traumatic experiences early in life.
