Introduction/Information about This Way Madness Lies
The game This Way Madness Lies is a game that, originally released on Steam on November 10, 2022, officially released on the Nintendo Switch on July 25, 2023. This game is a turn-based JRPG where players will need to save the worlds of Shakespeare from the forces of nightmares and enemies. I only enjoy Shakespeare somewhat, but I do love turn-based RPGs, so playing this game was a fun experience for me regardless. After playing this game, I would say that this game is a fun turn-based rpg with plenty of care put into the game.
Gameplay
The gameplay for This Way Madness Lies has a simple turn-based combat system that can be easy to understand. Players will start the game out with the man himself, Shakespeare, on stage. He will tell the player of his many different stories and introduce a fun feature of the game. Since the worlds the player will be exploring will be the worlds of Shakespeare, the characters of these worlds will speak in olde english. The developers of the game were able to use a fun translator to translate the olde english text into the new, modern english. This basically translates what the Shakespeare characters say, which is in olde english and may be hard to figure out what they mean, into modern english that most players would be able to understand. After showing the player the translator, the game will start out in none other Shakespeare play than Romeo and Juliet. The problem, however, is the world of the play is infested with giant mutant flowers that are attacking everything. This is where the player comes in with their team, also known as the Stratford-Upon-Avon High Drama Society. From there, the player will be able to fight the mutant flowers and explore Shakespeare’s world. The combat system, as I’ve said before, is a simple, turn-based combat system that can be easy to understand. Each person on the player’s team goes once per turn. With this, the player can attack, rest/defend, do special abilities, etc. The player can also unite the team and expand their abilities further. There are many ways the player can battle and defeat their enemies. It is up to them to strategize and find the best way to defeat all the enemies that stand in their way.
Final thoughts
Overall, I believe the game This Way Madness Lies is a fun turn-based JRPG and can be especially fun for fans of turn-based RPGs. Like I said before, I truly love RPGs. While I was not too in love with the idea of it being involved around Shakespeare, that to me did not matter once I got into my first battle. I would say that if you are a player that truly enjoys turn-based RPGs, then I would highly recommend playing this game. Players can get this game on Nintendo Switch, as well as Steam and PS5.
