Total War: WARHAMMER III, by developer CREATIVE ASSEMBLY and publishers Sega and Feral Interactive, releases today, February 14th, for PC. Total War: WARHAMMER III is a turn-based strategy and real time tactics game. While I do not particularly enjoy this genre, I must say that after playing this game, I can say that while my feelings for this genre have not changed, BUT I can still safely say that Total War: WARHAMMER III is still a great game for fans of this genre.
Gameplay
When you play Total War: WARHAMMER III, you play in a medieval world where you control an army. The world consists of the occasional medieval characters such as knights, ogres, and gods. The setting of the game was designed very well, and fits the medieval world. When one plays the game, they can move and explore the map, manage their settlements, and battle the other armies in the game. The maps that I experienced had very big areas with a lot to explore. The maps are in a 3D environment, so players have to move and plan accordingly. The controls are very easy and simple to use. It mostly consists of clicking. To give an idea of a map, the prolog has one playing in the cold north, making the map a more snowy area. Of course, there are many other maps to experience, so players have a variety of areas to play in.
The turn-based system is also simple to use. The player will take turns with an enemy AI army, and will complete the objective the game gives the player. During the player’s turn, they had the chance to strategize how and what to do in order to complete their objective. They can do many things to strategize, such as the main objective of war, which is to defeat the enemy army. Of course, this is the best option when the player’s army is stronger than their opponents. When this isn’t the case, the player will have to strategize more on how to reach their objective. There are also times where the player will have allies to fight along with them. These allies will also affect player’s strategies as well. There will be times where the allies will be able to help the player with attacking the enemy. This helps greatly in completing the objective. Then, there are times where the players themselves have to help the ally. This may seem like a problem, but in the end, doing this ultimately helps. There are many strategies to think of, so think of whatever it takes to lead your army to victory.
Final Thoughts
I can safely say that Total War: WARHAMMER III is a very good and well designed game. The game’s strategy-based gameplay is designed very well and easy to understand. This game releases today on the Microsoft Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, or play it day one with Xbox Game Pass For PC. I suggest that if you are both a fan of the Warhammer series and a fan of turn-based strategy games on the PC, then this is the game for you.
