The game, Train Sim World 3, by developer Dovetail Games, officially released in September 2022 for multiple platforms, including the Playstation 5. This game is a simulation game where the player will learn how to operate and master the train to do different tasks. For me, simulation games I can take them or leave them. With this simulation game, I was surprised and impressed with how much effort the developers put into this game.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Train Sim World 3 has the player needing to remember many things. Thankfully, the game offers a tutorial of how to play and the different mechanics the player will need to remember. The tutorial starts with how the player navigates outside of the train. This is pretty simple, but the game gives the player a lot to explore. When the map first opened up, I was immediately impressed with how big the world was. The player can move around the station that they choose, as well as interact with different objects. There are also maps that the player will be able to find to help them when using the trains. Once the player learns how to navigate the map on foot, they will learn how to operate the train.
The trains the player can have all operate in different ways. In the tutorial, the game teaches the player three functions. How to operate the reverser handle, how to release and apply the brakes of the train, and how to make the train accelerate. The reverser handle is used to choose which direction the train is going. Forward to go forward and backward to go backward. This is pretty simple. The brakes are usually applied to a train when they aren’t moving. If the player wants to move the train, they release the brakes. If the player wants to stop, they apply the brakes. While the player can apply the brakes, the game teaches them that the train will not stop on a dime. They have to plan where they need to start applying the brakes so they can stop in front of the station. Finally, the acceleration allows the player to move the train in the direction the reverser handle is in. The game teaches the player the importance of how to control their train’s speed when operating. If the player goes too fast, they will lose control. If they go too slow, they will not arrive on schedule. The game teaches the player to apply all of these important mechanics in order to operate the train and complete their objectives.
Final thoughts
Overall, the game, Train Sim World 3, is a great simulation game. The world and visuals look amazing, and the mechanics work very well. There are plenty of trains to experiment with, as well as different landscapes to explore and challenge the players. I am impressed with how well this game was made. If you are looking for another simulation game to add to your library or you are into trains, I believe this is the game for you. For people who want to buy this game, they can buy it on the PlayStation store, as well as steam and the Microsoft store.
