This past week, the demo of Truberbrook by Headup Games kept me company as I missed class and coughed out my lungs in my room. My computer (in a sad state much like that of its owner) could not handle the default graphics setting without turning the demo into a slideshow, but after sacrificing some of the details for speed, I was pleasantly surprised to see the game’s colorful 3D scenery and unique character outlines.
Our reserved protagonist, Tannhauser, is on a mission for some R&R after encountering a writer’s block and seemingly hits the jackpot by winning a trip to the small, quiet German town of Truberbrook. We get to point-and-click our way around the setting and direct Tannhauser, who walks amusingly like a man with back problems — shoulders slightly hunched, hips forward — perhaps realistically indicative of his profession as an astrophysicist professor, and get him to interact with certain game components, including, of course, NPC’s.
The people at Headup Games who put together the demo sure knew what they were doing. I was given a small selection of enticing scenes to play through (no spoilers, but think along the lines of giant “CERTAIN DEATH FOR THOSE WHO ENTER” caves, secret rooms, and the like), and I can say that I was left wanting for more after finishing it. Even those who are not into the sci-fi genre can be drawn to the mystery that hangs like a heavy fog over Truberbrook.
I am looking forward to playing the complete version when both my computer and I improve our healths, and I highly recommend you all to check it out as well once it is released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam on March 12, 2019.

In second grade, I received my first console, a purple GameCube on which I would spend hours playing games such as Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and Zelda Wind Waker. Although those GameCube days are long gone, I have continued to play and be fascinated by games more than a decade later. My current university schedule keeps me busy, but I still enjoy playing Smash with dorm-mates and friends, torturing myself by trying to climb on League of Legends solo queue, and exploring mobile games
