TURTLE ROCK STUDIOS BRINGS TWO IMMERSIVE VR EXPERIENCES TO OCULUS GEAR VR
A Unique VR Title ‘Face Your Fears’ Makes Its Debut Today at Oculus Connect Keynote
Orange County, Calif. – AAA developer Turtle Rock Studios and Oculus have announced two new titles coming to Gear VR. Other Worlds is a deeply immersive VR experience that allows players the unique experience of being inside a painting while Face Your Fears contains two vignettes that revolve around frightening events like being on the edge of a skyscraper, and surviving three nights in a room haunted by the malicious ghost of a child. Face Your Fears will be featured in the keynote taking place today at the Oculus Connect event in San Jose, California and both products will launch through the Oculus Store this month.
Other Worlds allows players to experience the awe and beauty of being inside a painting, showcasing three unique worlds all from the mind of artist Justin Cherry. Each environment provides its own beautiful, dark, and foreboding experience revealing the full potential of Gear VR through 360 degree panoramic views and industry-leading three-dimensional sound. Take in and explore the environment long enough and the player may see one of many random events tailored to the world they’re currently in. Meditate, listen to music or audiobooks while sitting in your own corner of the universe.
Face Your Fears players encounter a variety of terrifying scenes based on people’s fears and phobias. In Skyscraper, a player stands on the ledge of a skyscraper in the middle of a big city. When looking down, a giant robot is climbing up towards the player. In the Haunting, players experience the fear and excitement of being a little kid in bed in a room where things are not what they seem. What starts with a creaking house and distant thunder, crescendos into frightening moments that build up based on where the player is looking (or not looking). Face Your Fears launches on October 31, 2016.
“Ever since Phil Robb and I got a Rift demo at E3 a few years back, we knew we had to get into VR,” Chris Ashton, Co-Founder & Design Director at Turtle Rock Studios said. “It’s such an awesome, immersive experience. There is so much potential and so much to learn. Working with Oculus has been amazing for everyone on the team. VR leverages a lot of what we’ve learned while making AAA games for PC and console but the possibilities here feel endless. We’re breaking new ground and that’s something that has always spoken to the soul of TRS.”
“Turtle Rock is one of the most creative gaming studios around,” said Jason Rubin, head of content at Oculus. “We’re excited to see them jump into VR and create something that will have users screaming this Halloween.”
