Two Point Studios have made one of the best simulation games I’ve ever experienced with their new title, Two Point Hospital. A significant amount of work was clearly put into this excellent game which allows players the opportunity to experience what it feels like (somewhat) to be on the administrative end of hospital management. The player is tasked with building a hospital from the ground up and doing their best to ensure a good rating and reputation for the hospital. The player must build different rooms, provide new services to patients, hire and manage staff, and add amenities to the hospital in order to attract new patients and contribute to the betterment of the Two Point community.
The player is prompted to complete a variety of tasks that range from achieving a certain level for the hospital, curing a certain number of patients, hiring certain positions, and gaining a certain amount of revenue within a particular time frame. Part of what makes this game so excellent is that it takes into account the difficulty of analyzing certain complex financial decisions and creates a superb interface and task system that makes it easy for the player to know what they need to do (even if it may not be readily apparent).
Additionally, the menus in the bottom left and right corners of the screen provide an easy-to-use and quick way of upgrading and managing your hospital. The player must hire an assortment of doctors, nurses, assistants, and janitors in order to maintain the quality state of the hospital. Each of these professions comes with a variety of applicants that the player must consider through a 5-star rating system of each applicant, certain perks and abilities for the applicants, and some humorous references from “previous employers.’
Over time, the demand for certain jobs and traits will become more significant (such as a janitor needing to have a ghost-management badge in order to keep the ghosts of deceased patients from haunting the hospital and ruining business) and long-term employees will gain promotions which also see a salary increase. The player must analyze the salaries of the staff in addition to the hospital’s general expenses in order to make sure that Two Point turns a profit. When it comes to hiring staff, the player will need to adapt to develop a ward, offices for general practitioners, a pharmacy, a staff lounge, and many more rooms in order to keep up with newly introduced diseases and maintain a positive attitude among staff members.
Players can create and edit rooms and their contents over the course of the game, all of which contribute to increasing the prestige of your hospital. Certain subtleties such as the addition of plants, fire extinguishers, benches, and vending machines all contribute to increasing your hospital’s star rating and the contentedness of the patients that visit Two Point. The overarching goal of the game, however, is to build your hospital up to 5 stars and eventually start a hospital empire by expanding to create new hospitals. Another way for increasing your hospital’s prestige is by winning awards at the end of each year, with certain categories being “best doctor” or “best employer.” The sheer amount of customization available in this game somehow manages to make something as niche and inaccessible as hospital administration something interesting and enjoyable.
I had an amazing time trying to improve my hospital and grow my healthcare empire and I strongly recommend that anybody interested in simulation games go ahead and pick up this excellently made game. I would especially urge parents to buy this game for kids with an interest in video games because it ditches the blood and gore that is so popular in modern games and opts for a fun and educational experience. The blend of jokes and enjoyment and mature decision making is superbly well done and at twenty years old I certainly learned a lot. This is certainly on the top shelf of simulation games and I plan on continuing my Two Point empire long after this review.
Score: 8.5/10

Xbox One Review
I've been playing video games since I got a Playstation 2 when I was about 5 or 6 years old. The original Star Wars: Battlefront series and the Spyro series initially ignited my interest in gaming, but it wasn't until I got older that I truly appreciated the subtle details that make video games such a unique form of entertainment. My favorite type of video game would have to be any lengthy and plot-driven open world game, with my favorite games of all time being Batman: Arkham City, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and Firewatch.
