You have been asleep for far too long. As you push yourself out of your coffin; covered in dirt and dust, you can feel the deep ache in your bones. You are very weak and the strange itching within your gums and fangs do little to distract you from the unbearable thirst. You must find prey, alive and filled with red-hot blood. This is who you are, a creature of the night, a vampire, and you are very hungry. Developed and published by Stunlock studios, V Rising is an Open World Survivor RPG where players can live out their nocturnal adventures as a vampire. As with any beginning, players will not start off as an almighty and fearsome undead lord. Instead, they must slowly build up and survive the harsh wilderness, humans, and other supernatural monsters.
Not many take kindly to vampires, and they can easily go from being the hunter to the hunted. As with most common vampiric lore, these blood-sucking beings cannot go in sunlight, as it will cause players to burst into flames, burn, and suffer major health damage. Players must either keep to the shade or carefully plan their days wisely before the night sky can offer its safety. However, unlike the standard mythos of these night stalkers, vampires in V Rising can just as easily die from battle wounds much like a human would. A stake to the heart would be faster, but not so much more deadly than being beaten to death by hammers and clubs.
The local wildlife and human gatherings are not the only enemies within the game, as the land is also filled with otherworldly beings. The only way to thrive is to become stronger and for this, players will need blood, and lots of it. Any living thing that has blood pumping through its veins is fair game. Although animals make for a quick and easy-to-find snack, sometimes different humans can give you better blood. The better quality drained, the more efficient and stronger the vampire can become. This is, however, a temporary effect as the vampire only benefits from the most recent feeding. The only time where the vampire can fully absorb and harness the abilities that come with great blood is if they manage to take down a V-Blood Carrier. Essentially a mini boss that not only can grant you knowledge for certain crafts, but also new forms of magic to use.
Players can play solo, with friends, or against online strangers. There is not a large tutorial section when first beginning. Instead, it’s more of a learn-as-you-go and dying is only part of the experience. Harvesting, mining, crafting and learning new skills is essential for a prosperous vampire in V Rising. Leveling up does not happen via XP gained or how many victims are drained. Instead, it’s dependent on how well the player can craft their armor and weapons. Players will also have the opportunity to build their very own dark castle of doom and gloom. Complete with foreboding gargoyles, gothic arches, and even spellbound human servants. There is just so much to do and so much blood to drain. So go ahead and be a blood-thirsty killer, a sexy goth, or even a Nosferatu looking thing, the lands are yours to explore and conquer. Luckily, vampires have until forever to figure it out the next step to their legacies.
PROS: Solid game mechanics and atmosphere. Controls are easy, great solo or with friends, and easy customization options.
CONS: There are only two different body types, camera/view range is limited, and there is not a POV angle for a more immersive experience.

Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
