War Tech Fighters Review for Nintendo Switch

War Tech Fighters Review for Nintendo Switch

If you’ve ever dreamed of piloting a Mech and/or role playing an episode of Evangelion this is as close as you’re going to get. Now’s your chance to get in the robot and go guns blazing.

War Tech Fighters, from publisher Blowfish Studios and developer Drakkar Dev,  is seeming to be heavily inspired by Japanese Mech animes and Hollywood movies such as Transformers. I defiantly got the Transformers vibe out of it. The graphics are amazing and they didn’t skimp out on the music either. Everything is heavily detailed and the jams they have are pretty intense, fitting since it’s a space mech-themed shooting game.

The mech you pilot is your typical gun and sword-wielding fighting machine. You are able to customize your War Tech and change its color, upgrade parts, and change weapons, but be aware – you have to grind and you also have the choice of replaying levels for XP or finding new materials. At the beginning of the game you have a choice between 3 War techs to choose from: one is quick and light for those who want to keep dashing and shoot enemies but at the cost of your attacks being weakened; the second is fairly balanced for players who want the best of both worlds, and the third mech is heavier; heavily armored, has limited movability but has great endurance for those who don’t care much about dodging.

As for the storyline, it’s pretty basic and really is not told through cutscenes but through the conversations between characters in each level. If you are expecting character development and a riveting storyline; this is not it.

War Tech Fighters is not bad but decent as of terms of gameplay. The gameplay itself is a bit repetitive. You have your standard heavy attack, light attack, and shield. And that’s only when you are in 1-on-1 combat mode against another mech. You have 3 sub gun weapons at your disposal; one is a straight up shooting attack that goes in a straight line and deals moderate damage, second is a slower but heavy shot, and the third is a special lock-on type of missile gun that deals moderate damage and comes in handy when theres a lot of enemies on screen.

So far, War Tech Fighters has proven to be fun despite some repetitive gameplay but I am sure anyone who is into mechs or shooting games will have fun with it. I give War Tech Fighters a 7/10.

Hello there, I got into video games at a very young age and my first console was actually the Super Nintendo, I still have it to this day and have quite a collection of games for it. I play a lot of games ranging from different genres like fighting games, i.e Tekken and Street Fighter, RPG's i.e Dark Souls and Final Fantasy, side-scrollers, visual novels, MMO's, Shooters, and Horror. The more violent and story drove the better!. But, as I mentioned before my range for videogame genres has no bounds, I'll play anything as long as it's fun!
