World of Horror, designed by Paweł Koźmiński, developed by Panstasz, and published by Ysbryd Games, is not for the weak-hearted. Both fans of horror and H.P. Lovecraft will be united with awe in this thrilling, terrifying, and adrenaline-inducing game. Solve mysteries in small towns and realms beyond our world, while encountering and fighting creatures from the depths of hell along the way. From start to finish, this game brings every bit of imagination and fright to make the player jump out of their seat and truly anticipating the next move that they will have to make.
One wrong move and you risk it all. Taking too many risks too fast will cost the player their life in the game, causing them to start over. So, if you wish to not die by a gruesome, terrifying monster, the best way to avoid getting killed is to find all of the items for the ritual and perform the ritual to banish the creature. However, there is no avoiding combat with these creatures. They sneak up behind you and surprise you. It literally comes out of nowhere, so make sure you’re sitting down when you play.
Even opening doors and looking into classrooms can affect your health and sanity in the game. Making the right choices can help save your soul, but it might also take away from your time to find the items needed for the ritual. If the ritual is not performed, the monsters have a bigger chance of terrorizing the city and killing you. It might sound easy to stay alive but give it a couple of rounds. World of Horror is meant to be challenging and terrifying. It certainly stays true to its name, even with the soundtrack. The music is creepy and eerie, but it still doesn’t give off when you’re about to be surprised, so there is still an air of mystery to it.
The background is able to be set to whatever color scheme you prefer, I chose to stick with the original black and white so that the static and surprises were more fitting to the game and still made me jump. The creatures move on the screen and it appears as if they are actually moving towards you, about to pounce and tear you to shreds.
Overall, World of Horror is really well done, and I believe that it truly achieves its purpose and what it was set out to do. I’m not usually a fan of horror, but I can certainly appreciate this game and how well it plays. I was thoroughly impressed and would recommend playing it for so many reasons.

I am an army veteran and currently a sophomore at Portland State University majoring in English. I have always looked to gaming as an outlet outside of my everyday life and a way to experiment with playing different types of games and take on new and exciting characters with different backgrounds. It's kind of like getting to become a new person every time you play a game.
