UK – 28th July – International games label Team17 and Playtonic Games, the UK studio formed by veterans of the platforming genre, today announced that its fans will be able to experience its debut title, Yooka-Laylee via the highly-anticipated pre-release Toybox, which begins to roll out to select Kickstarter backers from today.
Developed by Playtonic and published by Team17, Yooka-Laylee stars the charismatic new buddy duo Yooka and Laylee, who use an arsenal of special moves to explore – and expand – gorgeous 3D worlds filled with collectibles to discover, secrets to unlock and a cast of quirky characters to meet (or defeat).
Yooka-Laylee was successfully funded on Kickstarter in June 2015, amassing a UK-record £2.1 million from more than 80,000 backers.
Kickstarter Backers who pledged applicable Toybox tiers will receive their PC, Mac or Linux digital codes via email on July 28th. As promised in the Kickstarter campaign, the Toybox isn’t a traditional ‘demo,’ but a self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox designed to give Yooka-Laylee backers a taste of the platforming to come in the final game.
There are moves to try, custom-built props to play with, secrets to discover and yes, shiny collectibles to hunt out. Playtonic has even included a never-before-seen NPC to chatter with.
Toybox will offer backers the chance to be the first people outside Playtonic to try out Yooka-Laylee’s core mechanics, and we’ll be gathering your feedback on stuff like controls, cameras and movement.
Here is the official Yooka-Laylee Toybox Trailer:
Yooka-Laylee will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, Linux and Mac in Q1 2017.
