Greetings, gamers! The Overwatch Tournament is still alive and well, and this past week we witnessed several exciting playoff matches in the North American League. Team Space eSports beat Team Vision, while Team Cataclysm won by a margin over Team Insanity by winning 3 maps to 2. Omen Gaming also bested Midnight eSports 3-to-1.
However, the biggest surprise by far was Absolute Edge’s victory over the number one team, Fissure. Absolute Edge was seeded as number eight in the team rankings, but they were able to beat their high-profile opponents 3-to-1! We asked Elfercho, the main support player on Absolute Edge, how they were able to do it, and they said: “It was all through coordination and teamwork. We have gone through so much as a team working on our comms stats, and us being the 8th seed proves how even the ‘lowest team’ can do anything. We know we aren’t a bad team, so we just focus on the things we want to work on after every game.” A major congratulations to everyone on Absolute Edge for the great play.
This marks the last week that we will be covering the tournament, but for those interested there is much more to come! This Sunday, both the EU (European Union) and NA (North American) leagues have highly anticipated battles. In the EU, we have the Oshtek Warriors versus Squall Clan, who are the second and third seeds, respectively. However, some are saying Squall Clan is actually favored to win because they have recently made adjustments and changes to their roster in an effort to improve–we will see how they do. Additionally, CDTB is facing off Outplayed Esports, and the former is undefeated and favored to win the entire tournament. On the other hand, it is clear from our past match with Absolute Edge and Fissure that the underdog always has a shot. Lastly in the NA league, Team Cataclysm will go against Omen (Omen is favored), while Absolute Edge will go head to head with Space eSports. Will Absolute Edge be able to keep up their winning streak? Or was this past week just a lucky fluke? Don’t miss the action; stream it live on twitch.tv/amateurgamer3 this Sunday!
We have had a blast reporting the battle statistics of this season’s Overwatch Tournament with Amateur Gamers, and we want to thank everyone who has viewed or participated in the matches. Best of luck to all the teams!
