2018 Fellowship Application Process Begins Today, November 1st
LOS ANGELES – Today the film and television division of Ubisoft is happy to announce script deals for the two recipients of the company’s Women’s Film and Television Fellowship, Mishna Wolff and Tasha Huo.
Last summer, Ubisoft announced a paid fellowship program specifically designed to illuminate female voices within the entertainment industry. In its inaugural program, Wolff and Huo had the opportunity to explore Ubisoft’s extensive library for potential development over a period of six months while taking part in a one-on-one mentorship led internally by Director of Film Development, Margaret Boykin; Director of Television Development, Danielle Kreinik and Head of Film and Television, Jason Altman. Wolff will script a film adaptation of Werewolves Within™, a virtual reality game of hidden roles and social deduction, and Huo will write a pilot for the television adaptation of the critically acclaimed Child of Light®, a role-playing video game inspired by fairytales.
“We were impressed with Tasha and Mishna from the start and have been absolutely blown away by their takes on our brands. We are excited to move into the script phase with them as it was exactly the outcome we were hoping for,” said Danielle Kreinik, Director of Television Development, Ubisoft.
Ubisoft will continue the fellowship again this Fall, commencing the application process on November 1, 2018. Similar to its first year, two female screenwriters will be selected for a six-month paid fellowship, providing mentorship and the opportunity to mine the video game studio’s portfolio for potential development into feature films and television series.
“This fellowship is about creating more opportunities for emerging female voices in film and television,” said Margaret Boykin, Director of Film Development, Ubisoft. “We’re thrilled with the program’s success and look forward to continuing the fellowship with two new participants.”
The division has a slate of films currently in development, including “Tom Clancy’s The Division” with David Leitch attached to direct and Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain attached to star. Leitch’s producing partner, Kelly McCormick, will produce along with Leitch through their 8711 banner, as well as Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker of Nine Stories and Chastain and Kelly Carmichael of Freckle Films alongside Ubisoft. Additional feature films in development include “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon“ with Michael Bay attached to executive produce for Warner Brothers Pictures, and “Rabbids.” Additionally, Ubisoft’s first-ever live-action comedy series has been ordered straight to series by Apple and will be produced in partnership with Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, 3 Arts Entertainment and Lionsgate Television.
