Grab your wooden sword and get your stomach ready because your destiny is here and it smells like berry pies! Developed and published by the Potata Company, Potata: fairy flower is a platformer reminiscent of the classic Mario or Donkey Kong games, except with more puzzles and cute characters. Play as the spunky and tenacious Potata, a young witch who never backs down from a challenge, unless it involves studying. Despite being known as a trouble-maker with a ravenous appetite, her wanderlust and honest morals have unexpectedly made her a hero. Yes, she may have initially caused the problem by scattering the forest fairy’s favorite flower, but, by golly, if she isn’t going to fix her mistake and then some.
Everything from the lovely music, to the crazy antics of our protagonist, and even to the small details of the background characters, this whimsical game will have you immersed into its fantastical world. Sure, this isn’t filled with high intensity stakes or forces you to choose between tough moral dilemmas, but Potata: fairy flower will still have you anxiously clenching your body in time with Potata’s actions. Will she make the platform? Avoid hurling spikey balls? Or will you accidentally misgauge her jump and she dies falling into a pit of thorns? Timing is key and second-guessing your actions is a one-way lane to failure. With every new territory you venture into, you will be faced with new foes, new challenges, and new ways to conquer them.
A key feature throughout this adventure game are the puzzles that can be found in both Potata’s cozy village and the nearby forest. Each puzzle is unique and will most certainly have you scratching your head on how to solve them. Collecting items scattered throughout is also just another big puzzle as you must figure out what their purpose is, when to best use them, and how to collect them to help you onto the next step. As completing these puzzles are so crucial, if you are unable to, then you are essentially stuck and can no longer continue onto your journey.
The further you progress with the story, the more you will grow with Potata. Not only will interactions between characters expose more of who she is, but so will the letters scattered throughout the environment. These floating pieces of parchment will give insight to the many personalities you meet as well as their thoughts of the protagonist. By finding out why someone is the way they are, it might help Potata with finally achieving her goal. And what is that goal? Is it to find the adventure that she always wanted? Is it to become an all-powerful witch? Or is it just to eat the most that she can get her hands on? You won’t know unless you play!
SCORE: 7.8/10
PROS: Adorable in every way and is a strange combination of peaceful, stressful, and wonderfully fun.
CONS: Would like to have more hints available when the puzzles in the game becomes too difficult. Getting stuck in one area and with no idea of how to move forward discourages further game play.

Steam Review
Video games have always been a huge influence in my life and have definitely shaped me to who I am today . Some of my best memories growing up were the many adventures and stories I was able to experience and become immersed in. If my hands aren't either covered in clay, typing, editing, creating, or helping shoving food in my mouth, they would either be gripped to a controller, tapping away at the screen of my phone, or clicking away on my PC. I am always up for trying something new because why live just one life when you can live many.
