Mavs Academy hosting hoop, dance, basketball specialty and Esports camps virtually
DALLAS, TX – In order to connect, maintain and grow skills with Mavs Academy campers during these unprecedented times, the Dallas Mavericks will virtually go to campers homes this summer. Beginning this month, Mavs Academy will host its first-ever virtual camps, including hoop, dance, basketball specialty, and eSports camps.
The Mavs Academy camps are open to boys and girls of all skill levels in the 7-18 age range and vary from free to $75, depending on the camp. Each camp will be hosted by Mavs Academy coaches and staff where campers will participate in a virtual session of skill training. Breakout rooms will be incorporated in some camps so that Mavs Academy coaches can focus on smaller groups of campers at a time.
Athletes participating in Hoop Camp will learn important fundamentals, sportsmanship and excitement of the game in a fun atmosphere, while training virtually with other campers. Basketball Specialty Camp will use advanced training methods to teach skills that transcend from practice court to game competition. Including drills that focus on developing shooting technique, footwork, ball handling, passing skills, offensive moves, defensive principles, jump training and overall knowledge of the game. Mavs Dance Camps will teach athletes to build self-confidence and have fun while dancing, while improving technique skills along the way. Esports campers will learn video fundamentals while getting the opportunity to participate in tournament play at the end of each camp.
Required technology and equipment:
- Basketball + Basketball Specialty Campers: Basketball, space to dribble (ex; driveway) and in some cases a basketball goal
- Dance Campers: Space to dance
- eSports Campers: Smart phone or computer for Twitch, Gaming Console (PS4 or XBOX One), controller, headset, video game associated with camp and a Twitch account
