Video games are most commonly categorized by the genre of the game such as role playing, first person shooter, sports simulation, and racing. However, one of the many draws of playing video games is the location in which the game is based or visits during play. Many people will choose a video game to play based on where in the world it takes you and one of the most popular destinations is Las Vegas.
One of the top three games based in Vegas is Fallout: New Vegas. The fact the name of the city is in the title of this video game tells you everything you need to know about the location in which it is set. In the game, players take control of a character known as Courier and it is set in a post-apocalyptic world. The year is 2281 and the Courier is left for dead by thieves as he transports a package across the Mojave Desert to the city of New Vegas. The Courier survives and embarks on a mission to find his attacker and reclaim the package.
The open world environment encompassing Arizona, California, and Nevada is fantastic and it came as no surprise when Fallout: New Vegas won the Golden Joystick Award for “RPG of the Year” in 2011.
Next, we come to a first-person shooter video game developed by 3D Realms called Duke Nukem Forever. This was the fifteenth installment in the Duke Nukem series and the game was released in 2011. Duke begins life in the penthouse of his Vegas complex and players can enjoy using his pool table and pinball machine. Before the shooting begins, they are some interesting gaming elements to accomplish, including a miniature sized Duke driving around a Vegas casino in a radio control car for example.
The Deja Vu Erotic Ultra Lounge in Las Vegas was used to give some journalists a taste of the game prior to release. So, Las Vegas had a big part to play in all aspects of the Duke Nukem Forever video game.
If you want to feel the thrill of being in a Las Vegas casino from the comfort of your own home you can by playing the Vegas app from William Hill. Simply install the app on your mobile device and you will have instant access to a wealth of Vegas style games, including live casinos with real dealers.
It is impossible to discuss the top games based in Vegas without mentioning Rainbow Six Vegas. Again, the title of this video game gives away the fact it is set in Las Vegas. Released in 2006, Rainbow Six Vegas features a combat team sent to the city in order to defeat international terrorists. Although the basic premise of this game is to shoot and kill the terrorists, there is a strong tactical element. The popularity of Rainbow Six Vegas led to a sequel that was released two years later.
Carefully navigating through the casino floors adds a great deal of excitement to Rainbow Six Vegas and the slot machines provide a great backdrop to the action.
