SAND: Raiders of Sophie Review for Steam Early Access

Introduction/Information about SAND: Raiders of Sophie

SAND: Raiders of Sophie is a game that has recently become available through early access on Steam. In this game, players will be able to build their own walking mech fortress and survive against both enemies and other players. Grab loot, weapons, and all kinds of different treasures as you fight to survive. To be completely honest, PvP games like this one I never really liked. I could never get into them, and playing this game was not any different. When I was playing, it was primarily a lot of exploring the map to find better materials and fighting other players to  steal everything they had. After playing the early access of SAND: Raiders of Sophie, I would say this game is just alright. I can, however, see people who enjoy this game genre having fun, especially with its focus on multiplayer.

Gameplay

The gameplay for SAND: Raiders of Sophie will have players building, looting, and fighting to survive and gather as much as they can. When players start the game up, they will have the ability to instantly be thrown into the fray. They can also prepare their giant walking mech fortress. Players can customize these walkers using the different rooms at their disposal. They can also equip their walkers with different kinds of modules, such as cannons to help defend against other players. If building is not a strong suit, players can build their walker using different blue prints. Once prepared and ready to go, players will embark on Sophie and begin raiding everything in their sites. Players can use their walker to move around and can get off whenever they find anything that interests them, such as wreckage spots or another walker.

While players are out and about, they can loot and take anything they think they need. They should just be sure to equip weapons, because nowhere is truly safe. Whether they are enemies or other players, there is always the chance of a shootout to break out. Players can equip different kinds of guns they can use, so as long as they have ammunition, they should be ready to take on anything. The gameplay is fine. Controlling the walker felt quick and easy to use and shooting felt as it should. Exploration also felt ok. I think my only issue was it didn’t feel like there was much around in the world itself. When I was exploring, it was less of finding actual places to explore and more so finding other players to steal from. A lot of the looting spots felt really spread out from each other and made the world feel somewhat empty at times. Since the game is focusing more on PvP, it would make sense to be finding more players than actual spots, but I feel that maybe adding more spots to loot would help the world feel more full.

Final thoughts

Overall, I believe the game SAND: Raiders of Sophie is an alright PvP game so far that I think players in the genre can get into and have fun with. If you are the kind of player who enjoys PvP looting games like this one, then I think you may have a better experience than me if you decide to try it out.
