Spaceflight Simulator Preview for Steam

Spaceflight Simulator for Steam Early Access developed by Stefo Mai Morojna is a spaceflight entry into the simulation genre. The single-player game is a cool and interesting simulation genre game, where rockets can be customized, built, and then blast off into space!

Customization and Gameplay:

The feeling I got when first opening the game up was one of exploration and fun, but also calculation and measured relaxation as the title screen goes into the building screen, where you are about to build your rockets following your own blueprint. For newcomers, there are a few videos and already made blueprints if you aren’t that experienced with the genre. I immediately started glancing at all the various different options for rockets, boosters, and even parachutes. I felt like many hours and careful planning could be spent just trying to make the optimal rocket that would be able to blast off into distant planets yet unknown. For me, at least, I quickly made a basic rocket first to test out the launching site.

At the launching site, you are given the option to fully control your rocket, parachute, and also steer the rocket’s direction to anywhere you want. I felt that the keyboard controls were a bit difficult to get used to at first, as many buttons and options were there, which felt a bit overwhelming. However, piloting and flying the rocket into outer space was a lot of excitement and fun as my first mission was trying to reach the moon from Earth.

I eventually got to the Moon, but then I went back to the building screen to test out new rocket parts and customization. I noticed that many times I was unable to lift off, as rockets needed precise timing and parts to lift off. However, with practice and careful tuning, more of my rockets could lift off and reach outer space. I had a lot of fun exploring the outer space regions.

There are a few different settings for Spaceflight Simulator, as you can switch difficulty from normal, hard, or even realistic, and there are keyboard settings as well as graphic settings as well to bolster or optimize your gameplay.

Reactions and Final Thoughts:

I feel that Spaceflight Simulator was overall a good game for avid fans of the simulator genre as well as fans of space travel and astronomy. I felt that learning about the rocket parts and how to lift off rockets were very useful to gaining this knowledge for potential real life learning scenarios. Additionally, learning about the solar system and astronomy could be useful in playing this game in general. However, the learning curve for Spaceflight Simulator was very high, as one needs to sort of know the mechanics of a rocket or has experienced playing other types of this genre before getting to fly a rocket. I was disappointed that there was no easier way to give an example rocket so I could start going to explore space a little faster.

Overall, I think that the customizations and builds of Spaceflight Simulator has to offer does outweigh the negatives, and it has an online community that is relatively large, which is a positive.
