From the creators of STAR WARS: Galaxy of Heroes, Legions & Legends enables players to own and explore the newly unveiled Corvus Galaxy via immersive gameplay and in-game NFTs
Azra Games, a studio dedicated to building best-in-class collectible and combat RPGs for the web3 era, has revealed its debut title, Legions & Legends. Set in a new sci-fi fantasy universe, players will lead massive legions of commanders, monstrosities and war machines to conquer a mysterious galaxy where magic and technology collide.
The title is currently in development by a team of games industry leaders spearheaded by Azra Games CEO and veteran game designer, Mark Otero, best known for Electronic Arts’ top-grossing Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. He is joined by Otero’s former collaborator at EA Capital Games, Game Director, Michael Noriega, and VP of Creative Development, Neel Upadhye, who brings more than a decade of experience at EA expanding the worlds of Apex Legends and multiple BioWare and Star Wars titles. Inspired by the deep lore of Dungeons & Dragons and the collectibles of Warhammer 40K, the Azra Games team is building a first-of-its-kind mass combat RPG.
“Legions & Legends is being built by a powerful team of both core gamers and crypto-natives,” said Mark Otero, CEO and co-founder, Azra Games. “This will be my ninth collectible and combat RPG, one that builds upon and perfects the genre I’ve spent my entire career developing. I truly believe that we’ve cracked the code for a captivating gameplay experience built around the joys of collecting toys and taking them to battle against each other, just as we used to do when we were kids. At Azra, we’re looking to bring back that excitement of the toy box and playing with friends – remastered for a new generation of players.”
Players can begin their journey into the Corvus Galaxy this summer, when Azra releases its “Genesis Collection” NFTs, which will be minted on Ethereum. These in-game assets can be used to generate resources for the upcoming Legions & Legends battle experience, which will be launched later on an Ethereum-based level 2 blockchain.
“Legions & Legends is the flagship game of a rapidly expanding franchise that will spread through multiple titles across multiple chains,” says Travis Boudreaux, co-founder and CTO, Azra Games. “Today, Ethereum is the hub of the decentralized world. More wallets, dapps, bridges, liquidity and layer 2 solutions exist on Ethereum than any other blockchain. Ethereum represents a near infinite horizon for the most intrepid players.”
The Genesis Explorers, the characters featured in Azra Games’ first mint of in-game assets, are newcomers to the Corvus galaxy and serve as the player’s guide into the lore of Legions & Legends. They soon discover they are not the first humans here, and uncover the mysteries of many powerful civilizations, still engulfed in a massive war. As members of the Genesis Merchant Company, the Explorers are prospectors and traders who seek to extract the valuable relics of these warrior civilizations from their abandoned battlefields.
In the first playable content, to be revealed later this year, players will deploy their Genesis Explorers on Exploration Missions, competing to discover elements used to craft legendary combat units in Legions & Legends. Exploration Missions are a permanent part of the game, living alongside the battle experience, and will never become obsolete as future game experiences roll out.
