The Predecessor Closed Beta is Live on Consoles

The Predecessor Closed Beta is now live on consoles. I, personally, played the PlayStation 5 version, and I have good news.

I fell in love with Paragon back when it was available on PlayStation 4. I should have left the last sentence as, “…back when it was available.” Paragon was eventually shut down. However, Epic did something amazing, and they allowed the use of all the game’s assets to be used by anyone for free with the Unreal Engine. This, unfortunately and fortunately, has led to there being two new Paragon clones being out. I say fortunate because I love the game. I say unfortunate because the player base has inevitably been split up between the already slim pickings.

The genre isn’t popular outside of League of Legends and DOTA. I grew up playing shooting games, so the third-person camera perspective felt right at home and allowed me to get in on the MOBA genre without having to play with a mouse and keyboard. The learning curve is already pretty high in these types of games, and I didn’t need anything else getting in the way of learning and enjoying this awesome game.

Predecessor is the game that looks to completely recreate Paragon back into what it once was. Paragon: The Overprime has taken its own route on what it wants to be. I enjoy both and play both regularly while trying to whittle away at my backlog.

Predecessor on PS5 runs great. The graphics make it look like just what I remember it to be in my head. The graphics have always been good since it runs on the Unreal Engine. There do seem to be a few problems with the net code so far. There is the occasional lag. I haven’t had any crashes during games, although, this could vary for different people. It all seems to be running rather well. There is even support for adaptive triggers, albeit a beta version that they warn may or may not work correctly occasionally.

If you never gave Paragon a try back before it was shut down in 2018, then you should give this game a try. It will be free-to-play, just like before.

I was born and raised in a town so small there were more cows than people. I joined the USAF as soon as I could, and I currently reside in San Antonio. I am a singer/songwriter on the side, but I've been a gamer since birth. I grew up with PlayStation and Nintendo, though, I don't discriminate between consoles and PC. I have a PC with a 3080, Steam Deck, and a PS5.
