The highly regarded role-playing game developer Owlcat Games, the team behind critically praised games like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, has declared its goal to enter the publishing industry. Owlcat has decided to concentrate on assisting independent teams worldwide in introducing their own role-playing games and role-playing RPGs to players, in addition to its development activities. Owlcat will make sure its new partners have access to all the resources, capital, and professional guidance required to develop innovative role-playing games.
Andrey Tsvetkov, Head of Publishing at Owlcat Games stated, “We would like to work with teams that share our passion for telling captivating stories through narrative-driven games. These might not fall entirely into the RPG genre, but they will definitely have a solid focus on story, characters, and worldbuilding. We have already walked the path of creating our dream game, and now we have the expertise and resources to guide other teams to the games of their dreams as well.”
Owlcat has inked agreements with two outstanding development teams, Emotion Spark Studio, situated in Serbia, and Another Angle Games, situated in Poland, following the examination of over 50 concepts.
Rue Valley is a narrative role-playing game developed by Emotion Spark Studio. The narrative centers on a man who becomes imprisoned in an enigmatic time loop while receiving psychotherapy. Managing psychological difficulties, the protagonist has to climb out of the abyss and investigate the anomaly to learn more about its mysterious beginnings.
Shadow of the Road is an isometric role-playing game being developed by Another Angle Games in an alternate history of medieval Japan. A sophisticated tactical turn-based combat system is paired with a fascinating story about honor, fealty, and samurai in a world full with dangerous steampunk technology and supernatural yokai.
More details about these games will be revealed at gamescom later this month. They are currently in the early phases of development.
Owlcat Games has also taken complete control of META Publishing, a publishing partner that helped bring Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to retail locations for PC and consoles in 2021. META Publishing has its unique approach, concentrating on games that prioritize gameplay and offer cooperative multiplayer options.
The publisher’s library of released titles is strong and includes titles like Spirit of the Island, Train Valley, Train Valley 2, Biped, and more. Later this month, at gamescom, additional titles from the META Publishing portfolio will be unveiled. These titles include Nested Lands, a new game from the Brazilian studio 1M Bits Horde, the creators of Spirit of the Island, and Biped 2, the follow-up to the popular puzzle action-adventure game from 2020.
