The Bloom & Blight update is the largest Early Access release for Aloft, a soothing sandbox survival game set in a universe of floating islands. We had the pleasure of attending the developer pre-release session of the update and absolutely loved it!
To improve the feeling of purpose and exploration, developers Astrolabe Interactive Inc. have gone all out, redesigning and simplifying nearly every aspect of the game. In the Bloom & Blight trailer, set sail into the stunning new skies of Aloft.

In subsequent upgrades, Aloft can expand on a more robust and adaptable base thanks to the enhanced world generation. As you sail from island to island, discovering ancient ruins, gathering adorable creatures, improving your skyship, and reestablishing ecosystems on the new Life Sapling islands, the result is a denser world with more interesting exploration.
Enhancing the islands’ flora, fauna, and fungi in a number of new minigames is part of the redesigned, more entertaining Healing Ecosystems experience.
Explore the amazing Life Trees and get access to their insight basins, which are essential for the advancement of tech trees. Navigate the sky and locate Lost Anchors, Corruption Anomalies, and Knowledge Stones to progress through the knowledge, research, and sailing tech trees.
To move quickly between island clusters with the wind at your back, open a system of wind lanes. Discover the secrets of the shipwrecked islands by using Lost Atlas. Use the new weapon tiers of Windstone and Serrated Bone to battle the Sportox and Flogade, two new forms of corruption.
Bloom & Blight offers plenty of material to explore. All things considered, the update gives Aloft a more fulfilling sense of purpose where advancement, exploration, and activities all flow together.
The team has already published three significant updates since Aloft’s January 2025 Early Access launch: Critters & Wonders, Puzzles & Pyrologics, and Bloom & Blight today. As the game gets closer to launch, the team will keep making improvements and adding new features.
