gamescom is the world’s largest event for computer and video games, and Europe’s most important business platform of the games industry. Nearly all of the major and well-known companies of the branch are represented at gamescom and will present their new products to both the trade world and hundreds of thousands of games fans on location. More than 800 exhibitors from around 50 countries are expected in Cologne from 17 to 21 August. And where the games industry presents its new products, the independent developers, the indies, can’t be far. That’s why the INDIE ARENA BOOTH will this year too be represented in an attention-getting way in the entertainment area (hall 10.1).
“We are pleased to once again be able to welcome the INDIE ARENA BOOTH at gamescom 2016. It’s a great concept that is met with great interest from visitors, especially due to the multifaceted presentation of the most recent developments”, says Tim Endres, project manager of gamescom at Koelnmesse. Boris Lehfeld, Senior Manager Public Events at BIU – Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware (German association of interactive entertainment software), the honorary and conceptual sponsor of gamescom, adds: “With the INDIE ARENA BOOTH, many indie developers have a great possibility for presentation at gamescom and direct access to the hundreds of thousands of gamers. For this reason we are very much looking forward to being able to support the pavilion of the indie developers, as in the previous year, with their presence at gamescom.”
The pavilion of independent developers will have an area of more than 500 square metres − the organisers of the INDIE ARENA BOOTH expect more than 60 teams. Thanks to exciting new presentations and unconventional concepts, the INDIE ARENA BOOTH will surely once again advance to a public favourite. “This year we have once again have the most exciting indie hits from around the world to play directly. In addition to this, one can even play with the makers themselves and talk about the development and realisation of the games”, says Oliver Eberlei, organiser of the INDIE ARENA BOOTH.
In the business area of gamescom, the INDIE ARENA BOOTH is this year represented for the first time in the framework of the BIU common area “BIU.Net & Friends Area”. The more than 60 teams of the Indie Arena Booth thus also have the possibility to use the common area of BIU.Net, the network of the German games industry.
Not only the strong interest of visitors at gamescom 2015 showed how successful the concept of the INDIE ARENA BOOTH is. This past December, the INDIE ARENA BOOTH was already honoured with the Deutscher Entwicklerpreis (German developer prize) for the Best Marketing Campaign. At the German Computerspielpreis (German computer games awards), the organizers of the INDIE ARENA BOOTH received the special prize of the jury at gamescom 2015.
