Futurist Ted Schilowitz Discusses the Merging of VR & Film Alongside Industry Pioneers
SAN FRANCISCO and LONDON – July 20, 2017 – With his recent switch from 20th Century Fox to Paramount, acclaimed futurist Ted Schilowitz has joined Director of the Lawnmower Man, Brett Leonard, and CEO of Baobab Studios, Maureen Fan, to deliver a free white paper exploring the impact of virtual reality in film and cinema.
Within the white paper, the three influencers discuss the broader challenges and opportunities facing the industry as VR takes hold; from its effect on traditional cinematic storytelling, to its use in studio marketing and promotion strategies, and the many considerations which come with it.
Produced by VR Intelligence, organizers of the VRX conferences in San Francisco and London, the white paper explores:
- Why – and how – the movie industry is starting to embrace VR… but why current studios may not be best placed to take advantage
- Where VR is gaining traction already… and why it needs to be treated as a completely new medium for content to flourish
- The lost opportunities in waiting for virtual reality tech to be perfect; and why cinematic VR will ultimately live or die by the quality and quantity of content being produced
Ted Schilowitz:
“What I see time and again are people that haven’t really given the time to understand the capabilities of the medium when they go in and try to create something. They tend to rely too much on their existing knowledge of what an experience should be, based on a flatscreen world.”
Brett Leonard:
“Billions of dollars have gone into the tech, and very little has actually gone into the content. How do you define a whole new medium of human interaction with virtual worlds with those kind of budgets?”
Maureen Fan:
“Create experiences with the empathy of film, the agency of games, and ultimately the motivation of real life.”
This free white paper has been produced in conjunction with VRX 2017, the senior-level B2B event for VR, AR and immersive tech, at the Marriott Marquis, San Francisco, this December 7-8. Registration for VRX 2017 is now open, with early rate tickets still available. The organizers, VR Intelligence, are also taking applications for sponsors,
exhibitors and speakers. For more information, see the VRX website at http://www.vr-intelligence.com/vrx
