PAX East 2025 Day 1 Impressions: Tunnels VR

We tried Tunnels VR, at PAX East 2025, which offered an immersive, claustrophobic experience that pushed the boundaries of virtual reality. The demo thrust players into dark, winding tunnels where sound design played a crucial role. Each creak, drip, and distant rumble heightened tension, making players feel truly isolated.

Gameplay focused on navigation and resource management. Players had to carefully monitor their flashlight battery. Interactions were intuitive, utilizing hand tracking for object manipulation. The monster designs are distinct and exceptionally frightening. When exploring tunnels, players must use flashlights to ward off monsters and monitor their location to prevent sneak attacks. Overall, Tunnels VR provided a thrilling, albeit nerve-wracking, glimpse into a unique VR survival horror experience.

In addition to the premium single-player campaign, a free-to-play online co-op mode allows players to collaborate or betray each other to survive with friends and strangers. We haven’t tried the multiplayer version ourselves but got some details regarding the feature. Customize your multiplayer character with unique gear to showcase your style while facing the mine’s horrors cooperatively with friends.
