Chronoblade is a free-to-play, side-scrolling, online, Action-RPG from indie developer nWay. Chronoblade has high hopes of tapping into the potential market of hardcore mobile games, or just creating it themselves. It will be available on Android and iOS later this year.
At the forefront of Chronoblade is the combat. The combat is unlike anything I’ve ever played on a mobile device. It’s not just a beat-em-up with a few combos, it’s a full-fledged balls-to-the-wall fighter. If you’re a fan of old school God of War and Devil May Cry you will rejoice at the freedom to rack up combo after combo on bad guys. There are currently four characters with their own unique combo strings, weapons, and skill trees. Each one had their own strengths and weaknesses, but also felt capable enough to take on anything.
There are the usual light and heavy attacks that veteran players will feel right at home with, but it doesn’t stop there. Hitting the jump button will string together an attack that either launches the enemy in the air making them even more vulnerable to endless juggles. The jump could also send the player into the air allowing for more hits from above before coming back down to the ground. It’s all just so smooth and seamless that I nobody what combination of button presses I threw at the game, the developers already thought of it and made it happen. For the math wizards out there, it seems they are combinations and not permutations. There are also three customizable special moves that each character can deploy for added damage and longer combo strings.
The game currently has a level cap of 60. It also has over 2,000 in-game items. The campaign will consist of 10 worlds with about 10 levels in each one. All of the XP, weapons, and armor gained throughout the campaign will transfer over to the game’s online PvP mode. I went head-to-head with one of the developers, and it was an absolute blast. All four characters were well-balanced. Besides a little needed optimization to smooth out the latency in multiplayer, the PvP feels just as good as PvE.

I was born and raised in a town so small there were more cows than people. I joined the USAF as soon as I could, and I currently reside in San Antonio. I am a singer/songwriter on the side, but I've been a gamer since birth. I grew up with PlayStation and Nintendo, though, I don't discriminate between consoles and PC. I have a PC with a 3080, Steam Deck, and a PS5.
