Are you a Total War fan? If you are, get ready for the next brilliant addition to the Total War family – Thrones of Britannia: A Total War Saga. This new edition brings back a lot of the beloved features of previous Total War games, yet adds a bunch of new features that will stand this installment apart from its predecessors.
At a SEGA press preview event last week, we got a hands-on look at the new game, an interview with one of the developers, and a pretty good history lesson to boot. The team has obviously put in a lot of effort to not only make it as historically accurate as possible but also allow for very submersive gameplay experience. Immersion is an impressive feat from a mostly top down strategy war game, but with the ability to scroll down into the heart of the action it a great excuse to add in a bunch of real sounds and voices. The voices being one of the amazing features in this upcoming game with scores of voice actors from different backgrounds giving characters more organic sound and a wider range of dialog. Adding in slowly building ranks means you can’t just instantly build your army with your vast fortune. This increases the value of each troop truly makes every battle feel much more precious.
In this new installment, the developers brought a new art style and level of detail to the game that hasn’t been explored previously. Some cut scenes are done in a style reminiscent to the old texts of England and the Gaelic regions bringing a fun and epic storybook feel to forging your way through history in this game. It appears that the other cutscenes are in a normal in-game engine style renderings probably to continue the feeling of immersion that envelopes the player in this war strategy game. Thrones of Britannia will release with ten playable factions, sport multiple victory conditions, expansive skill tree, and flushed out AI characters to ally with or betray.
As a quick bonus; Thrones of Britannia is also hiding a bunch of little Easter Eggs (which was my personal favorite part of our hands on demo) like geographical landmark such as Giant’s Causeway and Stonehenge.
A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia will be released worldwide on April 19, 2018. Visit the store page on Steam.
